[Note from Frolic: We’re so excited to have author Bella Michaels posting on the site today. Shes talking about her favorite recent purchases. Take it away, Bella!]
First of all, as a recovering blogger who ran a site of parenting picks and tips for nearly ten years, let me get one important tidbit out of the way. . . none of these are sponsored products. They are just ones I absolutely adore and would, or already have, repurchased again.
And again, and again.
Starting with the quintessential summer item, my most treasured body product of all, Sol de Janeiro’s Bum Bum Cream. I first discovered Sol de Janiero on a visit to Disney Springs, snapping up the Brazilian Body Mist as I walked by what is certainly the most summer of all summer scents in a shop. Since then, I’ve tried just about every other product in their lineup, the Bum Bum Cream being my favorite of all. An “all-over body cream is the ultimate Brazilian Beauty Secret” according to their website, it’s like the beach in a bottle, perfect for this land-locked beach lover.
As a romance author and life-long romance reader, no list of favorite purchases would be complete without book-related goodies. Until recently, I actually read most books on my phone. But waking up day after day with a dead cell after reading myself to sleep is no fun, so I finally broke down and purchased the Kindle Oasis. Waterproof for bathtub reading with an adjustable warm light, this is really one of those products that should have been a part of my life a long time ago. Better late than never?
Speaking of reading, this might not be the sexiest one on the list, but if you’re trying to eek out a little extra reading time, meet your new life-changing product. A big boast, but I promise it delivers. My most favorite purchase of 2020 is hands-down the iRobot Braava mopping robot. Yes, you heard correctly. A mopping robot. Vacuum robots are so last year. This Jetson-esque cousin of the vacuum version will actually mop your floor— hardwood, title, Braava does it all— while you kick-back with your new book boyfriend. Some of the models are pretty pricey, but the basic one does the job just fine for my mostly non-carpeted house. You’re welcome.
Sticking with the reading theme for a bit, I personally can’t read, or write, without a sumptuous scent wading through the room. I’ve hand-tested, or nose-tested I should say, more candles than I can count over the years. None quite compare to Bath & Body Works 3-Wick Candles, one reminiscent of the coffeeshop smell I miss so much— the Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla candle. The current front-runner in a line of yummy scents including Fiji White Sands or Coconut Colada for summer, this cross between vanilla and cinnamon reminds of my beloved chai, another reading and writing essential.
Last but not least, though unrelated to my favorite pastime of immersing myself in another time and place, is a very recent purchase that I will absolutely buy again. Similar to my candle quest, I’ve ditched more facial products over the years than I’ve kept. But since kicking makeup to the curb these past months, I’ve decided to take better care of my skin. Enter the “lightweight, whipped” Hope in a Jar from Philosophy, or Renewed Hope in a Jar in my case. Recommended for normal or dry skin, dryness going hand in hand with harsh Pennsylvania winters, it’s quickly become a daily staple in my very short beauty routine these days.
As the mother of two tweens whose job as an author is always a stay-at-home one, turning off the “work” button can be a challenge. When I manage it, much of my down-time is occupied with finding ways to sneak in a bit of reading for my own kiddos or coaxing (aka arm-wrangling) them into taking a walk with me or getting off Fortnight long enough for a family movie night. Amidst all of the chaos, if I can find ways to bring a bit of pampering, or that coffee shop or beach experience, into my life, I’m all for it. Sometimes it’s a swing and a miss, but the products mentioned above are all ones I’d purchase again in a heartbeat, so I hope you find one or two that resonate and bring a bit of joy into your life as well.

Billion Dollar Date by Bella Michaels, out now!
With just two simple words, Chari Atwood storms back into my life.
Beautiful. Irresistible. The woman standing before me is not the girl I knew growing up.
And I’m not the same hopeful kid everyone thought was going nowhere fast.
Nowadays, I’m a hero. A celebrity. A man who isn’t content with the billions in his bank account.
Call me ambitious if you want. I have my sights set on the rest of the world, and don’t have time for a relationship—even with the one woman who still has the power to bring me to my knees.
I will not break.
I will not succumb.
Except that I’m used to getting exactly what I want, and after one chance encounter, it’s clear that what I want is Chari Atwood . . .
Even if she is my best friend’s little sister.
