What to Read: Desert Island Books with Author Jennifer Ryan

Ending up on a desert island kind of sounds like a peaceful and quiet way to spend some time to this introvert. But then I’d probably miss my laptop – and TV – and oh yeah, my husband and kids. But for a little while, I’d bask in the sun… and maybe starve because I’m allergic to fish and coconut. If this is all imaginary, I’ll take some chickens, a salad garden, and a chocolate river!

And a few of my favorite books…

I write suspenseful contemporary romances, but I am a historical romance junkie. My obsession started with WHITNEY, MY LOVE by Judith McNaught. Every book McNaught writes is a page-turning romantic adventure. Bargained to a Duke to settle her father’s debts, Whitney wants a true and perfect love – and won’t settle for anything less from the Duke who makes her burn with desire. I mean, that’s what a romance should be!

Of course I’d want a book from one of my all-time favorite authors, the amazing Sandra Brown. I just finished her latest suspense, STING, and OMG! It was fantastic. Plot twists, action, a budding romance between an unlikely pair. I was thinking about the family drama and lies and deceptions in this story for days. Loved it!

The Fixer by Helenkay Dimon

One of my new favorite romantic suspense authors – and a lovely Avon sister – wrote my favorite enigmatic mysterious loners. THE FIXER by HelenKay Dimon sucked me in and took me on an action-packed journey. Wren is a problem solver, but can’t seem to figure out how to talk to Emery. Smart, blunt, and dangerous but lacking people skills, Wren somehow endears himself to Emery and it’s fun to watch them fall in love all while trying to solve her cousin’s mysterious disappearance.

If I’m stuck on this island, I’d like something to lift my spirits. My go-to feel-good author who is guaranteed to make me laugh – and make my heart melt – Jill Shalvis! I absolutely adore her writing, and the journal entries for Tilly are so right on and humorous, you can’t help but relate. I’d flip through the book just to read them, but Quinn’s story of giving up her “safe” life and opening herself to something new will draw you in, and make this island-bound reader think about what it would be like to reimagine my life and what’s truly important once I’m off the island. LOST AND FOUND SISTERS is a must-have island read!

I’d miss my family and friends terribly, so I’d take one of my dearest friend’s books to remind me of all the good times and long talks we’ve shared. My buddy Lia Riley is a fantastic author and critique partner. Her stamp is on all my books. In real life, she makes me laugh and feel good. Her books do the same for her readers – and me. I love her Brightwater series. RIGHT WRONG GUY is my favorite. Archer is a commitment-phobe. I love it when someone like him falls hard for a woman he never saw coming. The opening scene includes a nipple tassel, dive-bombing dove, and old-man ventriloquist dummy staring at Archer in bed with a stripping magician and her assistant. Archer escapes the what-did-I-do-when-I-was-drunk scene only to end up on a road trip with a runaway bride. Intrigued? It just gets better from there.

I’d hope to have a huge trunk full of my favorite books land on this island with me, but these will sure to help remind me of the ones I love and fill my days with action, adventure, laughs and love.

Noah Cordero is a modern-day cowboy who loves three things: ranching, his younger sister, and his step-father. John Cordero groomed Noah to take over the Montana spread where he learned to ride and work the land. But when John unexpectedly dies, he leaves half the ranch to a woman Noah doesn’t even know.

Roxy shares Noah’s last name, but not his blood. Estranged from her father, haunted by regrets, and eager to escape her notorious mother’s past, she is forced to fulfill her father’s last wishes. Inheriting means sharing a home with infuriating, challenging, and oh-so-tempting Noah. But John didn’t just make her owner of his ranch and guardian to her sister, his hidden sideline is her worst nightmare—she’s the new owner of the notorious Nevada brothel called Wild Rose Ranch where she grew up.

As their strictly business relationship starts to turn to true love, Roxy begins to wonder, what will happen when Noah discovers her dirty little secret?
