But there’s just one tiny problem—someone wants the Deveraux family dead. Dominque Deveraux never expected Max to reappear in her life, let alone apologize, but as Dominque investigates the mysterious attacks on her wealthy family Max quickly becomes far more than her one time college classmate. Now, Max and Dominque must dodge mercenaries and bullets as they try to make sure that they’re the only ones who get a second shot.
Excerpt:
“What are you doing here?” Max asked, shutting the door and crossing his arms over his chest.
“I came to see you,” Dominique said.
“Why?”
“To find out why you left. I thought we were having a good time. I stopped to talk to my family and then you were gone.”
“Your family, yeah.” He looked annoyed. “Why were you talking to me in the first place?”
She frowned. He made no sense. Had he not looked in the mirror this evening?
“Well, if nothing else, because I was going to have to stab Sasha Beckstale if she flashed her boobs at you one more time.”
“You’re jealous? That’s rich.”
“Well, why shouldn’t I be?” she demanded, stepping closer to him and staring up into his face, trying to interpret his expression. She leaned in, allowing her breasts to gently press against his folded arms. “Unless you kiss everyone that way.” She went up on tip-toe and let her lips graze over his. He grabbed her by the arms and shoved her away, breathing heavily.
“You misunderstood,” he said.
“You son of a bitch,” she blurted out and slapped him. For a moment she stared at him in horror and then she put her hand over mouth. She felt like she was going to be sick. She turned and fled down the hall.
