Love, Victor is Hulu’s newest hit! Set in the Love, Simon universe created by author Becky Albertalli, the first season of this coming-of-age show follows 16-year-old Victor, who has just moved to Simon’s hometown, Creekwood. The show is packed with interesting characters, from Victor’s wacky neighbor Felix to his love interest, sexy barista Benji. Love, Victoris a truly unique coming-of-age series, and here are five reasons to make it your weekend binge watch.

1. The Romance

Duh! We’re all about romance here at Frolic, and Love, Victor has a ton of our favorite tropes. One bed? Check. Friends to lovers? Check. Carly Rae Jepsen Dance Party? Double check. Victor and Benji make us feel so very fuzzy, and we know they’ll make you feel the same!

2. The Friendships

Growing up is about friendship as much as it is about love! Victor’s friendships with Felix, Mia and the rest create a well-rounded show that’s about more than will-they-won’t-they. Each supporting character deals with their own issues throughout the season, creating a myriad of interesting storylines to follow.

3. The Realness

There are parts of the show that may be hard to watch, but their realness is impressive and touching.  Victor’s parents often make jabbing comments about Victor’s little brother’s love of Elsa, and it’s painful to see the hurt on Victor’s face whenever these comments are made. It’s a very nuanced portrayal of the fear small comments like that can instill. The performances are excellent, relatable, and REAL.

4. The Soundtrack

There is a truly great mix of music in this show! Props to the music supervisor, who picked just the right tracks for every single scene. Not to mention the gorgeous theme song. We’ve had it on repeat for days.

5. The Simon Cameos!

We didn’t realize that Simon would be so involved in the show, and we are thrilled that he is! Each episode features messages between Victor and Simon, and each message has thoughtful advice and lots of mentoring!

Check out Love, Victor this weekend. You won’t regret it!
