We can’t believe another year has come and gone! The Frolic team wanted to share a few of the things that we loved from 2019 as we gear up for 2020!

Sarah Penna | Frolic Co-Founder

Movie: Booksmart (especially because I saw it in NY with Megan while we were attending Bookcon and I was wearing my “Book Nerd” tee shirt just to make sure I was 100% on brand)

Book: Moti On The Water by Leylah Attar

TV Show: Schitt’s Creek

Purchase: My Air Fryer, you know just to solidify my position as a millennial mom

Personal Moment/Accomplishment: launching the Frolic podcast network!

Elena Blekhter | Head of TV & Film

Movie: I loved Booksmart – it’s a friendship romance that was incredibly fun and feminist!

Book: One of my favorites this year is No Happy Endings by Nora McInerny. It’s a beautiful memoir about falling in love again while grieving the loss of a spouse. It’s unapologetically real and filled with emotion, humor and hope.

TV Show: Think it goes without saying that Fleabag S2 topped my list this year. Though it was a stiff competition – nothing made me feel the way I did watching Phoebe Waller-Bridge fall in love with a hot priest. (Notable mentions go to: Russian Doll, Unbelievable, Dollface and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel S3)

Purchase: You know you’re in your 30s when the most exciting purchase of the year is a French Door refrigerator. Love me some fancy new kitchen appliances! My second favorite purchase is an Apple Pencil. It’s changed my work life for the better!

Personal Moment/Accomplishment: 2019 has been a great one! This year, I produced a Netflix YA series called Ginny & Georgia – which has been a dream come true. And I started working for Frolic!

Megan Corbett | Head of Editorial

Movie: It’s probably overkill if I say Booksmart too but IT WAS JUST SO GOOD!

Book: Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert meant so so much to me. I live with chronic illness/pain and I loved seeing that represented in a romance heroine.

TV Show: Making It! Season 2 just aired and I adore this show so so much. Amy Poehler is my everything and her and Nick Offerman created this incredibly funny and kind DIY competition. It’s soothing for the soul.

Purchase: I love celebrating other people’s birthdays and this year for Jillian’s I ordered John Mulaney (her favorite person) masks to surprise her with. Her reaction was priceless!

Personal Moment/Accomplishment: FINALLY getting answers for my chronic illness even if that means forcing myself to go to multiple doctor’s appointments a month

Jillian Davis | Manager of Creative Operations

Movie: Rocketman

Book: Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

TV Show: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Purchase: A personalized/signed vinyl record by and of John Mulaney

Personal Moment/Accomplishment: I earned my yellow belt in krav maga AND got to meet two of my favorite authors – Sally Thorne & Rachel Smythe!

Samantha Martin | Coordinator

Movie: My favorite movie was Knives Out. I loved the twisty mystery and gorgeous production design!

Book: The Upside of Falling Down by Rebekah Crane. This was such a cute YA contemporary romance. I don’t usually go for these, but this one drew me in right away.

TV Show: EVIL on CBS. It’s a dark, fascinating look into demons and science!

Purchase: My Parzival and Art3mis Funko Pop figures. I’ve been looking for them for years.

Accomplishment: Moving cross-country to Los Angeles!
