Han Solo & The Five Reasons We Forever Love Him

For some Star Wars fanatics, there is no character that gets our heart thumping quite like Han Solo. The pilot, known to man the Millennium Falcon has attitude and charm to spare and maybe, just maybe, that’s why Disney has quite intelligently decided to give the super star his own origin film. Hooray to that! This Frolic writer, for one, can’t wait to swoon along with other Solo-lovers, and it’s surely looking like the film will be quite the adventurous hit for the Star Wars universe.

Solo: A Star Wars Story hit theaters today. The film, described as a space-western, follows a young Han Solo as he adventures with his Wookiee-sidekick, Chewbacca, and in the movie he encounters Lando Calrissian, who in the original Star Wars franchise, used to man the Millenium Falcon and lost the ship to Solo in a bet. Exciting.

We’re lost in love with Han Solo, and here’s why:

REASON #1: HE IS NOT AFRAID TO TAKE ON A CHALLENGE

In the 1977 classic, Star Wars, Han is the typical troublemaker, that while quite brave, has gotten himself into a great deal of a galactic pickle. In the film, Solo takes on the challenge with his co-pilot, Chewbacca, and accepts the charter request to transport Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO and R2-D2 from Tatooine to Alderaan on the Millenium Falcon. Owing crime lord Jabba the Hutt some serious amount of money and having a price on his head is no fun, so he takes on the gig fearlessly. A man with a mission and lack of fear? Count us in for this type of ride! We would certainly join him for any challenge that were to come about and couldn’t imagine us calling a friend to get us out of a date with someone who’s full-on got a sense of adventure. In the end, Solo’s mission led to him being presented with a medal of honor for his heroics, such as him meeting and saving the lovely Princess Leia and allowing Luke to destroy the Death Star. That’s what we’re talking about!

REASON #2: HE’S A LOYAL BESTIE

When we think Han Solo, we always think Chewbacca. The 8-foot tall Wookie never leaves his side, just as Solo is happy to have him next to him at all times. Chewbacca, a 200-year-old Wookiee, became Han Solo’s companion after Han, an Imperial officer at the time, refused an order to kill him, for which Han was dismissed from the Imperial Navy and became a smuggler. The fact that Solo refused to end his life and kept Chewie, as he’s nicknamed, by his side for so long goes to show us he would be there for us, too, and would probably be happy to meet and hang out with our own besties. As Wookiee tradition demands that if anyone saves a Wookiee’s life, the Wookiee must swear a life debt to them, Chewbacca protected Han for the rest of his life, and served as his co-pilot on the Millenium Falcon. A man who’s loyal to his buddy? We love it and can definitely stand by that type of attitude.

REASON #3: HIS SENSE OF IMPECCABLE STYLE

From what we see in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Solo has always been keen on having quite the sense of out-of-this-world, style. Always fitted in his best garb, like his classic black slacks and dark vest get-up, Solo surely knows how to take on a challenge and look good at the same time, making us think he would surely know how to dress appropriately for a night out on the town, or even a casual dinner and a movie outing, which makes him a man that stands out from the crowd with his own unique look.

REASON #4: HE MEANS TO DO GOOD FOR OTHERS

In the book Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays by Laurent Bouzereau, it states that George Lucas described Solo’s character as “a loner who realizes the importance of being part of a group and helping for the common good.” From the very beginning, when he takes on the challenges placed to him by taking up an unknown group who would then become invaluable to each other, Solo proves that he cares for others. In a classic Star Wars scene, he even goes back to save Luke Skywalker, which leads to heroism and destruction of the Death Star. We wouldn’t have some serious victories without Solo thinking of others. A guy who risks his life to save others is definitely a hero in our book!

REASON #5: HIS SPECIAL LOVE WITH LEIA

From his heroics in the first film, to his classic answer to Leia’s “I Love You” (“I Know”), Solo proves that his love for Leia doesn’t have to be explained further. She loves him and he knows it. We would take his answer in a heartbeat and would certainly join him in his many adventures throughout the galaxy.
