[Note from Frolic: We’re so excited to welcome author Emma Hart to the site today. She’s talking all things British heroes. Take it away, Emma!]

I have to start this here with the obvious: I am British.

I also have endless conversations with my American best friends about the way we say things. Literally in the middle of a conversation I’ll say something, and they’ll go, “What the hell does that mean?” Some of those conversations are so fun, and since I write romcoms, it’s easy to put those into banter between the hero and heroine and have it be completely realistic. For example, in my new release, HOT MESS, the heroine, Elle, pulls out a zucchini and asks if the hero, Theo, likes it.

Don’t worry. She’s cooking. It is totally in context. 😉

We call a zucchini a courgette in the UK, and writing that scene made for a moment that made me chuckle.

Also, I think we can all agree that the British accent is extremely hot, even if we don’t all speak like the Queen. (Spoiler alert, sorry.) Mostly, I love writing and reading British heroes because it’s comfortable for me. Setting books in America can be jarring because we say such basic things differently, but I can let loose and go wild with a British hero.

Courgettes, boots, sweets abound!

Here are some of my favourites you should pick up if you’re into British heroes, with a little bit of me in there, too!

Hot Mess by Emma Hart

My newest release, Hot Mess, is about what happens when you’re a famous vlogger and your ex releases an, ahem, private tape you didn’t know existed. Elle ends up in Creek Keys and rents a house from a hot, British single dad. A yummy yet hilarious slow-burn of a romcom!

Bossy Brit by Kendall Ryan

A sexy, addictive story about what happens when you sleep with your baggage-laden British boss. Probably not the best idea in the world, but one hell of a ride!

Challenge by Amy Daws

Hot British footballer. I mean, I’m not sure I need to say more than that? Bonus: it’s book one of a series of standalones for all your British binge-reading needs!

A Lesson In Thorns by Sierra Simone

I LOVE THIS BOOK. It is sexy and erotic and obsessive and utterly compelling. It is a part of a series, but do not let that deter you. This is the kind of book that stays with you!

Instant Gratification by Lauren Blakely

British best man for hire? Why wouldn’t you do that? (I mean, the bride might drool over his accent, but it could be worse.) Also, best friend’s sister? HELLO? I am all over that trope!

About the Author:

Emma Hart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over forty novels and has been translated into several different languages.

She is a mother, wife, lover of wine, Pink Goddess, and valiant rescuer of wild baby hedgehogs.

Emma prides herself on her realistic, snarky smut, with comebacks that would make a PMS-ing teenage girl proud.

Yes, really. She’s that sarcastic.

Hot Mess by Emma Hart, out now!

What do you do when the whole world has seen you getting down and dirty in a broom closet?

I, Elle Evans, am on the run. Not from the fuzz—although that would be more exciting. No, I’m on the run from the four-year-old private tape that, thanks to my vengeful ex, has probably already ruined my vlogging career.

There’s nothing like the entire world knowing what you look like mid-O. Creek Keys, Florida, is a million miles away from NYC and the perfect place for me to hide for the rest of summer until I can figure out what I’m going to do. Something that’s easier said than done since my new landlord’s daughter thinks you’re God’s greatest gift. Even better? Their beach house is right next to the one I’m renting, so there’s no getting away from her—or her hot, British dad.

Who most definitely does not think I’m role model material. He might be right. The problem is that neither of us can say no to her. Or each other.
