I Met Literary Matchmaker Anne Bogel & Other Things On My Mind by Kate Olson

I Met Literary Matchmaker Anne Bogel & Other Things On My Mind by Kate Olson

My bookish friends, I had the MOST amazing experience last Sunday night. I traveled down to the North Shore of Chicagoland and combined a visit with my lifelong  best friend with a night out with Anne Bogel at Page 1 Books. Now, if you don’t already know who Anne Bogel is, you really do need to just go check out her blog — then it will ALL become clear, I promise. In short, she is a lifestyle guru who is a literary matchmaker on her blog and podcast and all around an amazing source of inspiration for me and tens of thousands of other readers. And if you don’t know Page 1 Books, do check them out too. The company is a female-run small business that offers a personalized book subscription service.

Anne’s  latest book, I Should Be Reading: The Delights and Dilemmas of the Reading Life just released last Tuesday and it is an absolute delight. It’s a beautiful small volume of essays about books and reading and is something every avid reader will want to read and savor. And if you are looking for a gift idea for a bookish friend in your life, what an amazing choice this book would be! This book made me laugh so hard I cried, and then it flipped and made me cry for real. I related to every single word and will definitely be re-reading it again and again - it has definitely earned a place on my forever shelf.

At the event, we had the opportunity to mingle and chat with other like-minded book people and enjoy wine and snacks before the main event - Anne reading aloud from her book and answering our questions. She read my favorite chapter from the book, “Bookworm Problems” and the response from the room was amazing. The Q & A was such a wonderful experience and I learned so much about female entrepreneurship, her reading decisions, the process of producing a podcast and so much more. After the Q&A we had the opportunity to pick up our copy of the book or grab a book of our choice from the Page 1 Books store room, and since I had already received an early copy of the book, I chose to shop in the storeroom. And look what I found!

I can’t wait to read this Lorna Landvik novel - I will read anything set in my region of the country and this one is set in Minnesota and is a sequel to a book I read many years ago. And of course, there were swag bags filled with some fabulous bookish goodies.

All around, it was a wonderful event and my best friend and I had the opportunity to escape from our children for an evening and talk books with a group of women we otherwise never would have met. What could be better than that??

Suzanne and I have been best friends since we were born in 1980  and our moms added us to their existing friendship ~ we have been talking about books ever since!

On My Radar

I adore finding upcoming releases and I love sharing them with you! Here is a book releasing on September 10th that I’m excited about:

Intercepted by Alexa Martin

Marlee thought she scored the man of her dreams only to be scorched by a bad breakup. But there's a new player on the horizon, and he's in a league of his own...

Marlee Harper is the perfect girlfriend. She's definitely had enough practice by dating her NFL-star boyfriend for the last ten years. But when she discovers he has been tackling other women on the sly, she vows to never date an athlete again. There's just one problem: Gavin Pope, the new hotshot quarterback and a fling from the past, has Marlee in his sights.

Gavin fights to show Marlee he's nothing like her ex. Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to let her escape her past. The team's wives, who never led the welcome wagon, are not happy with Marlee's return. They have only one thing on their minds: taking her down. But when the gossip makes Marlee public enemy number one, she worries about more than just her reputation.

Between their own fumbles and the wicked wives, it will take a Hail Mary for Marlee and Gavin's relationship to survive the season.
