[Note from Frolic: In honor of Valentine’s Day we are having a few of your favorite authors write a love letter to their moms. Today we have the talented Jodi Ellen Malpas!]

Mum,

Thank you for being so completely and utterly incredible. For ignoring the contempt you faced when you fell pregnant with me at sixteen. And for believing in yourself— believing you could not only be a mum, but the best one.

Thank you for making all of my funky clothes when I was a kid. And for giving me my passion for fashion.

Thank you for taking me to London to cheer me up when my first boyfriend dumped me. And for the endless hours laughing on the couch when we watched Absolutely Fabulous together.

Thank you for every word of advice that has got me to today. And for making sure I remain grounded.

Thank you for my love of decorating. And for passing down your amazing DIY skills.

Thank you for not judging me when I’ve cocked up. And for picking me up when I’ve fallen down.

Thank you for your hugs and for wiping my tears. And for showing me what a strong woman is.

Thank you for holding my hand through labor. And for helping me buy my first house.

Thank you for telling me to follow my dreams. And for being proud of me when I did.

Thank you for my high cheekbones, my long legs, and my dark eyes that change shade depending on my mood. And for my olive skin that tans super easy.

Thank you for choosing Dad to be your partner in parenthood. And thank you for being a fabulous Nan to my boys.

Thank you for accepting the changes in my life, although I know you’ve struggled to let me go off into the big, wide world. And thank you especially for being a fierce lioness when I’ve faced disapproval and disdain.

But most of all, thank you for showing me how to be the best possible mother I could be.

And for being my mum.

Love you more than you love chocolate.

About the Author:

Jodi Ellen Malpas wrote her debut series, The This Man Trilogy, in secret, worried about what people might think if they knew what her imagination was capable of. She was shocked herself. But she finally found the courage to unleash her creative streak and self-published THIS MAN – the first book of the This Man Trilogy – in October 2012. She took a chance on the story with a hero who soon became one of modern day fictions most prolific alpha male characters. Jesse Ward – also affectionately known as The Lord of The Manor, sparked incredible reactions from women across the globe and catapulted Jodi into the world of romance.

She was soon signed by Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hachette Book Group, and the third book of the trilogy, This Man Confessed, took Jodi to the top of the bestsellers lists, earning her the proud title of #1 New York Times Bestselling Author. This Man has since been voted one of the top romance novels of all time. With so much love and enthusiasm for her words, Jodi suddenly wasn’t afraid of her imagination anymore and has since let it run riot. Writing powerful love stories and creating addictive characters has become her passion—a passion she now shares with her devoted readers.

Jodi was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, England, where she lives with her real-life man, her boys, and a beagle. She is a self-professed daydreamer, a Converse and mojito addict, and has a terrible weak spot for alpha males.  Her work is now published in more than twenty-five languages across the world.
