There’s something about Jason Momoa. From his acting stint on Game of Thrones, to his beefy appearance in Justice League as Aquaman, nothing compares to his husky voice, good lucks and seemingly manly appearance. How cool is he really? How dreamy is he really? I was determined to find out, no matter what, especially when I found out he would be on Florida soil — my home state — during Memorial Day weekend.
Megacon Orlando — a comics and pop culture fest — was happening, and as soon as I found out Jason Momoa was going to be there, I knew exactly how I’d be spending the weekend. Being as how these opportunities only come once, I decided to brave the nearly four drive to Orlando from Miami with my husband Sebastian Dominguez in tow, quite a big sacrifice, since it was his birthday (the big 4-0!) week. He was a giant trooper, seeing as though Jason doesn’t make his heart go pitter patter.
So, ladies, so how cool and dreamy is Jason Momoa from up close? What makes him extremely awesome when you meet him up close and personal? Here are my top five things I will never forget about meeting Jason.
HE LIVES UP TO THE “NICE GUY” HYPE
Even in a giant pop culture convention like Megacon, Jason isn’t overshadowed. While his publicity people mentioned he had a foot injury, Jason still posed with fans wearing the biggest smile. His loyalty to his fans made me completely melt. Hugging fans and giving them high fives, you would never tell that he was injured.
HE LOVES HIS TEA
As I was walking up with my very supportive husband, and ready ready (did I say ready?) to meet Jason, our lovely guy took a break to sip some hot tea and chat with friends who were chilling with him at the meet and greet. That gave me even more time to fantasize *ahem* casually wait in line to meet him. Knowing that Aquaman enjoys a hot brew made me daydream about him surprising me with a cup of coffee at my favorite coffee shop, just saying/
HE’S SO MUCH TALLER IN PERSON THAN YOU CAN EVEN IMAGINE
See above, haha. (PS: Sebastian is trying on his best ‘tough guy’ grin, but he’s really just almost as excited as am I to meet Jason).
HE SEEMINGLY LOVES STAR WARS AND GIVES THE BEST HUGS
Seb and I were headed to a Star Wars event at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that evening, and were wearing matching Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia shirts. As soon as Jason spotted our tees, a big grin washed over his face and he made it a point to compliment our shirts. There’s nothing like having Jason hug me AND geek out with me.
HE HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR
I walked up to Jason clutching an Aquaman Funko pop, and he started laughing. I took the opportunity to tell him how much I adored him in Justice League. When the moment was over, he gave me a big embrace and then the three of us posed for a shot (that’s me with the goofiest grin ever!). In some funny way, Jason gives me faith in humanity… and a big, giant case of the butterflies.
