My Romance Threesome of the Week by Kate Olson

Diving into the week’s assortment of ROMANCE thoughts!

Romance via audio - make sure you have headphones!

Remember last week when I told you about that amazingly steamy f/f romance I listened to? Well, that’s another one of my little “how do I read so many books” secrets ~ audiobooks! I listen to audiobooks when I drive, when I walk, when I sew, when I do chores around the house, when I shelve books at work... every possible second! They allow me to make the most of my reading time and I recently discovered that romances are my absolute favorite genre to listen to. Romances are usually interesting enough to hold my attention, but also light enough that if my mind wanders a bit it’s okay. However, oh my goodness can it be disconcerting to listen to some of the steamier parts while in decidedly NOT steamy environments - I’ll catch myself looking around and making sure that absolutely no one around me can hear what’s coming out of my headphones, and I often blush while doing so!

Right now I’m trying out the Romance Package from Audible to determine if it’s worth the extra $6.95 per month to add it onto my Audible subscription. (Note: This is the package price for Audible and Kindle Unlimited members ~ for non-members it is $14.95/month). I love that it’s a borrowing system and you can have up to 10 titles at a time for way cheaper than using an actual Audible credit. So far I have definitely found titles that I want to listen to, but was a little bummed to find out that not all titles in a series are always included in the subscription. I love the fact that they include a “Steam Factor” from Sweet to O-O-OMG ~ definitely gives a heads up on how blushworthy the listening experience will be!

I’ll keep you posted on whether or not I decide to continue with the program - for now it’s a cheap way to binge on romance while my kids use up all of my full-price Audible credits.

A fierce but sweet new YA Romance

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

I honestly don’t know anyone who didn’t love Albertalli’s first novel Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, and I have to say that I loved this one even MORE than Simon. Could be just that I tend to gravitate toward books with female leads? Not sure! Regardless, this story about high school senior Leah and her massive crush on her friend Abby has all the ingredients for a perfect YA romance ~ plus the additional drama of no one knowing she is bisexual yet, and Abby being her good friend Nick’s girlfriend. Of course I can’t tell you how it ends, but know that I laughed out loud so hard during the prom dinner scene that my entire family was worried about me! I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves YA and loves reading about real, raw and messy love.

On My Radar

Here is a romance  that releases on July 17th that I can’t wait to read!

Heartwarming and fresh, Sarah Morgan's brilliant new novel is a witty and deeply uplifting look at the power of a family of women.
