Author Ally James shares her survival guide for being snowed in! Which of these items are in your kit, too?
Snow days are few and far between in the Deep South. Yet, as I write this, snow is falling in South Carolina. As the beautiful flakes swirl in the air, shimmering like diamonds, I’m reminded of Sara and Gabe, in my book From Alaska With Love. Despite the uncertainty between them, they both loved the winter splendor of Anchorage as did Gabe’s dog, Trouble.  Â
I couldn’t help but think how amazing it would be if we could set our schedules and responsibilities aside for a day, and reconnect with not only our loved ones but with the beauty of nature as well.  To give ourselves a pass to be silly, lazy, and simply embrace all the possibilities a winter’s day has to offer. Sounds amazing, right? Let’s do it.
The decision has been made! We’re playing hooky. I think this calls for a snow day survival kit. What would you include in yours? Keep in mind that this is all in the name of fun, and relaxation, so our kit should reflect that. Let’s assume we’ve spent the morning outside making snow angels and dodging snowballs. Or chasing the dog and sledding with the kids. Â
We’re pleasantly tired when we come inside and pondering the afternoon ahead. In From Alaska With Love, Sara was fond of her SpongeBob Pajamas. Yet, I think she’d agree that the ones below are kind of awesome—and they’d likely remind her of Gabe’s dog, Trouble. Â
