I adore a romance that takes me through the emotional wringer. One that makes me root for their happily ever after. One that also makes me root for their la petite mort. (A French expression meaning little deaths, aka orgasm.)

My most memorable erotic romances are the ones where sparks fly off the page. The characters have chemistry and fight the urge to rip each other’s clothes off — but only at the beginning. A little foreplay for readers, so to speak. All these elements makes the payoff extremely satisfying when the couple’s angst and sexual tension finally come to a head (hehehe).

My Bawdy Bookworms Insiders virtual book club and I dub these books as “panty melters.”  They helped me put together this list of searing erotic romances.

(Technically, no panties were melted in the writing of this list, but they’ll make want to find your own la petite mort. Or two. Or three.)

Up in Smoke by Tessa Bailey

I’m currently working my way through this super angsty, majorly sexy novel. Fifty pages in and there’s plenty of both!

Connor is former Navy SEAL gone bad while Erin is know for her arsonist skills. The two are forced to work on the right side of the law in order to escape jail time. Sparks fly the moment the two meet. Except Erin doesn’t like to be touched, but Connor somehow soothes her inner demons. While the two try to work out their issues, there’s plenty of orgasms to be had. In very creative positions, I might add.

Haven by Rebekah Weatherspoon

A friend recently recommended Haven, citing that she and her partner had mind blowing sex after she read one particular scene involving a thorough oral exam.

Mountain man Shepard and city girl Claudia don’t have much in common, but tragedy brings them together. The two enter a passionate Dom-submissive relationship, but can they let go of their past to make things work between them?

Third by Robin Covington

There’s nothing sexier than a confident woman who knows what she wants in the bedroom and goes after it. Dr. Carla Androghetti is very happy as a sexual third in threesomes with couples at her private club. When she’s pulled into a murder case with homicide Detective Aiden Cross, their attraction is instantaneous. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but Aiden has a tough time accepting her desire to be a third. You’ll enjoy their sizzling love affair as they attempt to navigate both of their sexual needs.

American Queen by Sierra Simone

If throuples are your catnip, look no further than this smoking hot modern retelling of Camelot. Before you dive in, clear your schedule because you’re in for a wild ride.

What can you do when the President sends his best friend and Vice-President to ask you out? Greer can’t help but say yes–to both of them. Can their love overcome their dark secrets that threaten to unravel their future?

What was the last book you read that left you reaching for a fresh pair of undies?
