It’s no secret that we here at Frolic LOVE Rom Coms. We adore everything about them, from the meet-cutes to the angst to the inevitable HEA. Today, we’re sharing one of our favorite little-known Rom Coms. It’s called The First Time, and there’s so much to love about it that we’re not sure we can fit it all in one post. We’re going to try, though! Here are three reasons why The First Time is one of our favorites.

1. The Cast

The First Time stars Dylan O’Brien and Britt Robertson as Dave and Aubrey. We’ve been in love with Dylan O’Brien since Teen Wolf, and we love Britt for all kinds of reasons, not least her badass performance as King Arthur in Disney Channel’s Avalon High. These two insanely talented actors have a ridiculous amount of on-screen chemistry, and the movie wouldn’t be the same without them. You’ll fall in love with all of their stolen smiles and sweet moments.

2. The Hilarious Dialogue

Though The First Time tackles some tough issues, like dealing with death, moving away from family and more, it’ll have you laughing out loud from the first scene. Here are just a few of our favorite lines:

  • “Oh, I know what platonically means. I’m a junior, not a moron.” –Aubrey
  • “It goes without saying, give it a few days before you call this girl. Let’s give her the illusion you have a life.” –Simon

The movie is packed with witty one-liners and laugh-out-loud performances. You’ve gotta watch for yourself!

3. The Love Story

The First Time doesn’t shy away from the awkwardness of high school relationships. Instead, it embraces all of those cringe-worthy moments, but shows us that we can find beauty and love in moments like these. Dave’s speech at the end of the movie makes us burst into tears every single time.

If you’re looking for a new (old) Rom Com to watch this weekend, why not watch The First Time for the first time? And then for a second. Because you’ll want to watch this one again and again.
