This week, we return to a world we all know and love…the world of The Hunger Games.
I’ll never forget my excitement reading these books back when they were first released. I was a journalist at The Miami Herald and my friend, Amy Reyes, a colleague of mine, left the first book on my desk.
“You’ll love this,” I remember her saying. The rest is history.
From multiple feature films covering the world of Katniss Everdeen (and who could decide between Peeta and Gale?), which I remember seeing the first one with my uncle and family (may he rest in peace), the subject of The Hunger Games is one I hold dear to my heart.
Here are the top three reasons your Frolic YA Expert is thrilled about this book’s upcoming release.
#1 The Hunger Games Tees and Merch Can Be Worn Again Proudly
If you were a Hunger Games obsessed fan like me, you possibly have some Catching Fire and Hunger Games tees in your closet. Look closely, you know you do. Hot Topic and all of the cool stores carried some merch, sure to help you showcase your fandom proudly. I know I already have a countdown on my calendar and have been marking off the days to the book’s release when I can celebrate by wearing my favorite Mockingjay logo tee. This dear writer even wore a Katniss cosplay proudly back in 2016 and will be dusting that off again ASAP.
#2 A New Generation Will be Introduced to Katniss and Friends
Katniss Everdeen is quite the strong female, character. As a teacher and writer now, nothing excites me more than introducing this character to new readers who probably have not yet discovered this world. I already have young readers (my students) asking to borrow my trilogy and some are super excited to know that I’ll have a copy of Ballad in my classroom for years to come.
#3 That Synopsis Has Us Reeling
Nothing compares to the excitement heard around the world when this synopsis was revealed to the world. You mean we get to know President Snow’s backstory? Sign me up!
Synopsis: It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.
The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined – every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute… and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.
