Oprah must have known when she ended her daily talk show that one aspect of her being would never truly be over. And that, of course, is her annual Favorite Things list.
Whether or not you’ve ever purchased any of Oprah’s Chosen Ones on her yearly list of favored items, you must admit: it’s always fun to see what Our Lady Of Daytime Media picks out!
This year, while perusing Amazon’s list of Oprah-approved products, I couldn’t resist picking a smattering of MY favorites. Some are fun. Some are functional. Some are frivolous. All are Oprah (and Erin) approved.
Becoming: A Guided Journey For Discovering Your Voice by Michelle Obama-$12.27
Amazingly, of all Oprah’s favorite things, this one takes the cake for “Gift you’re most likely to realistically give and/or want.”
Our lovely former first lady hit a literary home run over the last year with her book, so it makes sense that a guided journal around the theme of “becoming” would be a massive hit, too!
I love a journal, I loved Becoming, and I have a feeling I’m not alone. This is an excellent gift for the thoughtful, introspective person in your life!
Piccolina Trailblazer Tee: Ruth Bader Ginsburg-$28.00
There are a couple of other Trailblazer Tees like this, but this is the one that makes me go “awwwwww!” the most.
It’s well documented that RBG is awesome, and this illustration of her on a long-sleeve tee is the perfect way to get kiddos representing strong women at a young age.
In fact, I am SO tempted to buy and send this to my bestie’s toddler girl for Christmas. The only problem? It doesn’t come in adult sizes so I can match!
Yedi Houseware 9 in 1 Total Package Instant Programmable Pressure Cooker-$99.95
Not to cast aspersions on one of the most influential women of our time, but…I just have a hunch that she probably has no need to actually use this kitchen item. But that doesn’t mean we, the proletarian masses, wouldn’t have a use for it!
I’ve been late to the Instant Pot-style-cookery craze. But this one seems FANCY—just look at all the buttons!
Plus, who doesn’t love the appeal of an appliance that can help you make a chicken breast, a batch of yogurt, steamed veggies, or a cake?!
Peepers Blue Light Filtering Reading Glasses-$20.00
Here at Frolic, we love reading, and we love spending time on our computers. Naturally, it would be easy to imagine needing these reading glasses!
Whether you’re using them to dive into your favorite romance novel or to write your thousandth word of the day in a fiction manuscript, chances are these are some of the handiest things Oprah could recommend for you!
Plus, these are CUTE and it’s easy to imagine how wearing them would make you feel classy as heck, just like Oprah!
Creative Co-Op Stone Brie Bakers With Lids And Wooden Spreaders-$41.75
In my opinion, one of the qualities that keeps us coming back to Oprah’s Favorite Things again and again is the aspirational value that the list holds. It’s like the feeling I get from wandering around Pottery Barn or Anthropologie when I’m a week away from payday.
That aspirational quality is what makes me love these Brie Bakers! Wouldn’t it be great to be the kind of person who ABSOLUTELY NEEDS a specific gorgeous stoneware item to bake their brie with lovely jams and garnishes on top?
Here’s the kicker: most of us don’t wake up every day dreaming of a brie baking dish, but it feels like an attainable luxury. If the mood ever strikes you, this is the kind of “affordable expensive” for such purchases.
And, forever more, you will be known as something like, “That brie girl who brings brie to every social gathering in her gorgeous brie-specific stoneware with its own special spreader.” Doesn’t that sound nice?
Murphy & Daughters Bath Salt (Cucumber, 35)-$88.00
A couple things to know about me: I’m a massive fan of Parks and Recreation and I once worked at a very well-known store that prides itself on its exquisite bath products.
Why does this matter? Well, through my Parks and Rec love and retail experience, I’ve learned that sometimes you just have to Treat Yo’ Self, and it’s hard to put a price on the joy of a good bath.
Sure, this wouldn’t be my run-of-the-mill bath time treat. These bath salts would be saved for the days when I need to stay in the bath for a straight-up hour or more, reading a book or washing my cares away. As I’ve said above: an essential aspect of Oprah’s Favorite Things is the feeling of decadence and aspirational living. So if you want to bathe like a media goddess, who am I to stop you?
There are plenty of other fun and amazing things on Oprah’s list for 2019, but these are the few that captured my attention. What are your favorite items that Oprah has smiled upon? Feel free to let us know!
