I just got back on the audible escape train after having to cancel my audible subscription and let me tell you it has been worth it! For those who do not know what Audible Escape is, it’s a subsidiary of Audible that mostly contains romance audiobooks and where you can download them without using credits, like a public library you pay for. Check groupon for any deals because it is perfect for romance readers. Since it is Halloween season, I have been looking to explore and satisfy my paranormal cravings. Audible Escape has soooo many options, it can be daunting to find one. These are a few that I’ve discovered thus far!
Kristen Painter’s Nocturne Falls Series
Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.
The tourists think it’s all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.
Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.
After seeing her maybe-mobster boss murder a guy, Delaney James assumes a new identity and pretends to be a mail order bride. She finds her groom-to-be living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day. Weird. But not as weird as what she doesn’t know. Her groom-to-be is a 400-year-old vampire.
Hugh Ellingham has only agreed to the arranged setup to make his overbearing grandmother happy. In 30 days, whatever bridezilla shows up at his door will be escorted right back out. His past means love is no longer an option. Not if the woman’s going to have a future. Except he never counted on Delaney and falling in love for real.
Too bad both of them are keeping some mighty big secrets..
A downfall of the audible escape package is that usually only the first couple of books of the series will be on Escape and the rest will need to be purchased using credits. This series however, has books up to number 8 of the series available on Audible Escape. This is a fun series of books that match a hero of unlikely origins and a heroine that can’t be pushed around. The heroines aren’t all supernatural but they’re all Grade A bosses. This is set in a town that caters to people who love supernaturals without most of the tourists knowing they have ACTUAL supernaturals around them. The narrator does an excellent job of delivering some cheesy lines in a very entertaining way. Each book can be read as a standalone
Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld Series
Long ago, twelve immortals warriors—each more dangerously seductive than the last—stole and opened Pandora’s box, unleashing the evil from within. Now they carry that evil within themselves. Violence, Pain, Death, Disease, Disaster, Misery, Doubt, Promiscuity, Defeat, Lies, Secrets, and Wrath. When a powerful enemy returns, they will travel the world in search of a sacred relic of the gods—one that threatens to destroy them all.
This series may not seem supernatural but there are some definite otherworldly actions happening here. It also has many of the books on audible escape with fantastic narrators. These are immortal warriors that have been transplanted to Earth. They navigate amongst humans while enjoying themselves and have missions all of their own. Showalter has a playful way of writing a romance with plenty of banter and antics that keep you glued to your audiobook.
Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress Series
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.
Being around Bones awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline rush of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head – wanted: dead or half-alive – means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard Cat tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever … and Bones won’t let her get away again
I devoured this series. The narrator does a British accent that takes a little getting used to but, the banter comes across really well. However, Audible Escape only has two of the books beginning with book 2. Bones is one of my favorite vampires! FYI, these books are not standalone.
J.R Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood Series
The first novel of J. R. Ward’s New York Times best-selling Black Dagger Brotherhood series features a unique take on vampire lore and heavy doses of sensuality.
The vampire Darius fears for the life of his half-breed daughter, who is unaware of her unusual destiny. To oversee her transformation, Darius seeks help from Wrath, a dangerous loner and the world’s only purebred vampire
This is an epic series of vampiric proportions. Escape has the first six books in their package and this is important because book 3 is my favorite of the entire series! This is an iconic series that you won’t want to miss with a story that builds on brotherhood, romance, and family.
Amy A. Bartol’s Premonition Series
Soon-to-be college freshman Evie Claremont had hoped that once she’d arrived on Crestwood’s campus, the nightmare that she’d been having would go away. It hasn’t. She may be an inexperienced 17-year-old, but she’s grounded… sane. She looks for rational explanations to even the strangest circumstances. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he’s near, she feels an attraction to him – a magnetic kind of force pulling her toward him.
Unfortunately, Reed acts as if Evie’s the worst thing that has ever happened to Crestwood…or him. But for some reason every time she turns around he’s there, barging into her life. What is the secret that he’s keeping from her? Evie’s hoping that it’s anything but what she suspects: That he’s not exactly normal…and neither is she. So, maybe Crestwood won’t be the making of her, but it could be the breaking of her. Evie’s now left to wonder if the dark future her dream is foretelling is…inescapable.
This series has a good narrator and so much action that keeps you listening. It is always highly recommended and brings other kinds of supernatural beings into the mix. Bonus, the whole series is on Escape!
