To explain a little about what this post will be about, every Trope Tuesday post starts with the same introduction. In every romance book you read there are tropes or archetypes you find inside its pages. You can also see them in shows, movies, plays, etc. Every type of entertainment and media. Romantic tropes are everywhere, and they are fabulous. I adore them and I always tend to find my favorite ones in romance books so I can enjoy them even more. Trope Tuesday is a weekly column where I share books that I know people will enjoy with a specific central trope.

What is a trope? Urban Dictionary explains it best: “Despite the erroneous definitions already published here, trope on the interwebs really refers to an often overused plot device. It can also be described as another variation on the same theme. TV shows, movies, comics, games, anime’, & books are full of tropes & many rabid fan-sites now name & track said tropes with a self-explanatory title for each one.” We can name a few: accidental pregnancy, best friends to lovers, sibling’s best friend, marriage of convenience, and so many more. Your favorite couples? They probably got a trope too! It’s always so nice to realize or find out your favorite romance trope and keep searching for books with the same theme. So really? I’m just helping you find that new favorite book of yours. If ever you want a post on a trope I haven’t done yet, do drop me a tweet at @thebookvoyagers and let me know!

This is not a romantic trope per se. But truthfully, cats take part in big romantic stories in books. I’ve seen and read so many of them and I’m share a few with you. I want to highlight 2020 books so all of them are either already released or coming later this year. I know the romance community is a big fan of cats and kittens, so this list is perfect for everyone who loves our furry friends. More importantly, as you can see with the title of this article, I’m showing cats on book covers!!! Because I saw that we’re seeing lots of lovely kitties in them and wanted to put them all together in one list.

House Rules by Ruby Lang

Ruby Lang’s third book in her Uptown’s series has already come out, so you can pick it up right this second and get started on some fabulous reading!

Former spouses need a place to live. Both are searching for an apartment and decide to be platonic roommates. Why not? They come up with a trial period: three months, let’s see what happens. Their chemistry will always be there, but their lingering feelings start to appear and things might get complicated for both of them.

Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

This romance novel is actually the one who made me want to do this list. Lyssa Kay Adams has some of the best covers in romance right now, especially illustrated covers. You might see a lot of vector-like illustrated covers out there that are just really simple and colorful, but Lyssa’s books are so full of life and story. I love the concept behind this series and that each hero has a paperback copy of a romance novel in their possession on the cover. And in this new upcoming novel, coming out Oct. 27th, there is also a CAT! Why? Maybe because our heroine works at a cat café. Isn’t that amazing?!

Computer genius and cat café owner are best friends. When she finds out that she has a sister, her next action is to go to him and ask for his help. He has always been in love with her so he wonders if this is the right moment to confess his crush. The Bromance Book Club will help him go from best friend to boyfriend!

Her Purrfect Match by Robyn Neeley

Our cat friend here will be a matchmaker, so be ready for it in Her Purrfect Match. This is the story of how Cassie returns to Honey Springs because her aunt has passed away and has left her honeybee farm, a cat and the job of acting mayor. But her little vacation will turn into a three-week stay! She also needs help with the locals and none other than her former crush will help her with that.

The Other Side Of the Sky by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Because we all have love stories in YA books, I wanted to add this upcoming HarperTeen title. I’m also a big fan of these two authors and their collaborations in science fiction. They always make me want to travel the universe, have epic adventures and fall in love with someone who is the opposite of me. Please check out that cat friend on the cover, being all heroic and precious, side-by-side with the couple.

The Other Side of the Sky is a Miyazaki-inspired science fiction YA novel who will grab your attention pretty quickly. We have a prince, a goddess, a forbidden romance, magic, sky cities. Give it to us.

  1. Check out the Furrever Friends series by Kris Bock for sweet romance novels set in and around a cat cafe. The first title is Coffee and Crushes at the Cat Cafe.
