What I’m Reading on Memorial Day by Kate Olson
By Kate Olson
Today marks Memorial Day in the United States ~ a day to remember those who passed away while in active military service. While many in the country also use this date to mark the beginning of summer and all things backyard barbecue, the true meaning of the day of remembrance is never far from my mind. And you all know that I like to theme my reading with special holidays and events, so I thought I’d share a series very special to me due to its straight up cozy nature and the nod to our military heroes.
The Inn at Rose Harbor by Debbie Macomber
Debbie Macomber has been one of my favorite cozy romance authors for decades now, and her Rose Harbor series instantly became a favorite when I read The Inn at Rose Harbor when it released in 2012. Macomber returns us to the favorite Cedar Cove of her previous series and introduces a new beloved character ~ Jo Marie Barlow. Jo Marie is a young military widow whose husband was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan. To get a fresh start in life, she spontaneously purchases a bed and breakfast in the town of Cedar Cove, a town brand new to her. While the bed and breakfast is the focal point of the series, Jo’s grief and her quest to learn more about what happened to her husband play a prominent role as well. And, of course, there is romance. Each book in the series features some sort of romantic dilemma for her guests, as well as an ongoing romantic entanglement for Jo Marie that she eases into as time passes.
Whether or not you are honoring a specific military member today or remembering all of those who have fallen, add this book and series to your TBR shelf if you are needing some comfort in your life.
