[Note from Frolic: We’re so excited to have writer Amanda Lara on the site today. She has some bookish horoscopes that will tell you just what to read this year. Take it away, Amanda!]

With 2020 done and behind us, the new year brings a brand-new set of challenges and fears for every horoscope on the chart. Will 2021 be just as chaotic for Leos? As insane for Virgos? Well, we don’t think so, and we’ve got some great reads to prove it. Here are twelve fantastic books for every horoscope to make your 2021 reading the best it can possibly be.

Aries should read Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli

Love is in the air for you this year, Aries! 2021 has a chance at romance scheduled in your calendar; unfortunately, maybe a little drama, too. Open up Becky Albertalli’s Kate in Waiting, where best friends Kate Garfield and Anderson Walker have no problem crushing on the same guy from afar—that is, until their crush shows up at their school. The course of love never does run smooth, so we’re thinking this book will be perfect for all your passionate heart’s desires in 2021, Aries.

Taurus should read The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

There’s lots ahead for you this year, Taurus, but there’s no reward without risk. In 2021, there will be chances for better things, if and only if you’ve got the courage to pursue them. Kristin Hannah’s The Four Winds tackles one of America’s darkest times—the Great Depression’s Dust Bowl era—right in the middle of Texas. Like so many others in her situation, Elsa Martinelli must make a difficult choice: to stay at her home and fight for a better life, or leave for California in search of a new beginning. For any level-headed Taurus, this book will be the perfect thing for you.

Gemini should read Simmer Down by Sarah Smith

It’s your career era, Gemini! Your 2021 is scheduled to have some big professional opportunities—jobs, money, you name it. In Sarah Smith’s Simmer Down, Nikki DiMarco leaves her job to dive headfirst into the Maui food truck scene—only to run headfirst into competition against British food truck owner Callum James. A romantic workplace rivalry will be just the delicious thing to start off a Gemini’s new year.

Cancer should read Girlhood by Melissa Febos

You’ve always been nostalgic, Cancer. Since your sign is ruled by the moon, you have a higher tendency than others to look back on the past, so 2021 will bring up a lot of those feelings, especially as you strive to grow. Melissa Febos’ Girlhood takes a look backwards for us: about the effects of puberty on a young woman, the way they realize they no longer move through the world in the same way, and every complicated learning experience that comes with being a girl. Girlhood is a gripping, thoughtful mediation on any young woman’s past: aka, the perfect tool for a Cancer’s self-reflections.

Leo should read Anna K Away by Jenny Lee

Chaos ahead for you, Leo! All that pent-up energy from 2020 is guaranteed to bleed over into your 2021 with friends, money, everything! In the follow-up to Jenny Lee’s Anna K, Anna K Away follows the titular character in her fall from grace following a sex tape scandal and the death of her girlfriend. Her father takes her to South Korea to reconnect with family and hide away—but is this just a new beginning? Follow along with the craziness in this book, Leo: you just might need some tips on how to handle some yourself!

Virgo should read The Marvelous Mirza Girls by Sheba Karim

Break out the bandages: it’s time for you to heal. For Virgos, 2021 will be the year you stop taking care of others and start focusing on yourself. Sheba Karim’s The Marvelous Mirza Girls follows Noreen all the way to a gap-year trip to New Delhi, where she’s hoping to cure her senior-year slump and tackle the loss of her beloved aunt. Scandal, love, and self-discovery await Noreen in India—most of all, redefining of the meaning of ‘home’. A good book is great medicine, and we recommend that kinda treatment plan for any Virgo this year.

Libra should read After Happily Ever After by Leslie A. Rasmussen

Your happiness is crucial, Libra! Since 2020’s toils are over, it’s time for you to embrace 2021’s predictions of love, happiness, and new beginnings at full-speed. After Happily Ever After by Leslie A. Rasmussen sees forty-five-year-old Maggie Dolin unsatisfied in her marriage and life nearly a decade after she left her last job—that is, until a chance meeting with a younger man that has her turned upside down. As a sign that prioritizes relationships, 2021 will be the time to pursue your own bonds with other people, Libra; this book will be a great reminder to follow your heart.

Scorpio should read The Survivors by Jane Harper

Yikes. Rough time for you in 2020, Scorpio, which hasn’t always brought out the best—but not to worry! Life has its ups and downs. In Jane Harper’s The Survivors, Kieran Elliott struggles with a painful mistake that haunts him all the way back to his hometown, where a body and an accompanying mystery soon wash ashore. Your dark side will thrive on this thriller, Scorpio, and who knows? 2021 might lead you somewhere you never saw coming.

Sagittarius should read Professional Troublemaker by Luvvie Ajayi Jones

We missed you, Sagittarius! All of 2020’s hardships have taken their toll on your free, fiery, and social spirit, but 2021 is the year you’re going to take it all back. Professional Troublemaker: The Fear-Fighter Manual tackles imposter syndrome, the terror of being told “no”, and how to pursue your goals, with Luvvie Ajayi Jones’ signature wit and humor to guide you along. It’s the perfect read for any Sagittarius to conquer their new year in the fiercest, bravest way.

Capricorn should read Del Rio by Jane Rosenthal

Opportunities abound, Capricorn. This year will reward your steadfast and unwavering work ethic, so why not read about someone else doing the same? District Attorney Callie McCall decides that her sputtering hometown of Del Rio—nicknamed “Cartel County” by the locals—is the perfect place to start her political career. To her surprise, Callie finds herself thrust in the middle of a murder mystery and must navigate through the shady twists and turns of her city in order to make a difference. Jane Rosenthal’s Del Rio is the perfect story for any hard-working Capricorn this 2021.

Aquarius should read Whereabouts by Jhumpa Lahiri

Above all, an Aquarius thrives on the strange and unique: in 2021, that forecast appears no different. This upcoming year has you focused on community, love, and taking care of yourself as you grow. Jhumpa Lahiri’s newest novel, Whereabouts, follows the course of a woman over the span of a year as she changes, shifts, and garners new perspectives in the city she belongs to. For any Aquarius and their pursuit of the unknown, Whereabouts will be just the thing to take along for the ride of 2021.

Pisces should read Early Morning Riser by Katherine Heiny

We know you were overwhelmed last year, Pisces, and who wouldn’t be? Your sensitive side makes the rough times even rougher, and in 2021, it looks like some even more changes are in store for you. In Katherine Heiny’s Early Morning Riser, Jane is not quite sure what to make of her charming husband Duncan’s continual relationship with his ex-wife, her husband, and a myriad of other people in his life. However, after a terrible car crash, Jane learns the complicated ways in which people can become intertwined in the midst of something drastic. The novel will be the perfect accompaniment to your year of new beginnings, Pisces. Stay strong! Have no fear!
