What to Read

4 Self-Help Books that Make Great Stocking Stuffers

Good tidings we bring to you and your MIND. Self-help books get a bad rap, but let’s just get the elephant out of the room. We all need to give ourselves some TLC every once and a while. And there’s no time like the present. We’re getting festive for the holidays, reflecting on 2019, and looking forward to the upcoming year. Nothing goes better with those things than a good ole’ self-help book. Here are a few suggestions:.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

And no, it’s not book about pristine skincare routines. Girl, Wash Your Face is a jump-up-and-down, hands-in-the-air book about turning your dreams into a reality. Rachel Hollis is a successful author and business owner who values hard work, honesty, and aggressive goal-setting to get to the place where you want to be. Throughout the book, she combats all kinds of lies with her own set of golden, self-help truths.

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Elizabeth Gilbert is well-known for Eat, Pray, Love (which you should also read), but we’ll focus on Big Magic for its emphasis on creativity. Gilbert tackles all the tough questions about balancing your career and passion(s) all while keeping it real. Big Magic is a great read if you’re looking to challenge yourself as you step into the new year. These pages are filled with powerful statements and motivating words that will make you want to get out of bed and conquer the day with… big magic.

Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown

Raise your hand if you love Brené Brown! Ignore all the middle-aged mom hands that go up because Brené has really great insight for all age groups. She is all about courage; hence, Braving the Wilderness. Fair warning: This book can be a doozy. It’s not a light beach read, but it is definitely a book that delivers impact. It’s about the journey of finding yourself, eliminating noise and unnecessary cares, and braving whatever is in between today’s you and the real you.

Life Safari by John P. Strelecky

Some self-help books are short and sweet, like Life Safari. This read is one that gets you thinking about your big goals—and what really matters in order for you to live a fulfilling life. We follow the story of John Strelecky on his wild trip to Africa, where he meets a mentor who changes his life. You may not be vacationing to Africa for the holidays, but your mind could probably use a good vacation with this read!

Whatever you’re hoping to get out of a self-help book, you’ve already come far by making the decision to put yourself first. The holidays are all about giving, so make sure you hold true to that sentiment by giving yourself the care you deserve.
