Everything about this song is super cute and romantic and cliché — and that’s exactly why I love it. Plus, knowing that the lead singer wrote this for his girlfriend at the time is whole new level of swoon (because who wouldn’t want a famous musician to write a love song about them?). And as much as I like to think of myself as an individual who bucks the trend when it comes to weddings, I’m still a romantic at heart and a huge sucker for a catchy and sweet love song.
I chose this song because I’m a huge fan of The Office and love the scene in season two when the whole office has to work late because of Michael’s shenanigans, so Jim takes it as an opportunity to low-key woo Pam (who was engaged to Roy) with an impromptu rooftop dinner. At the end of the night when they leave the office, Pam asks Jim what he’s listening to on his iPod, he gives her one of his ear buds, and together they sway along to “Sing” by Travis. A sweet moment because all of us watching that episode loved seeing them together, but wrenching because Pam was still engaged to awful Roy, which meant that we’d have to wait longer for her to come to her senses and fall for Jim. The song reappears in season six when they’re solidly in a relationship, during a montage of their couple history. Hearing this melodic and folksy song always gives me the warm and fuzzies. It reminds me that even when love takes a while to find, it’s worth it in the end because of how amazing it feels.
