Celebrate Father’s Day with TV’s Favorite Father Figures

Today is Father’s Day. For many that means celebrating their dads or other prominent male figure in their lives.

For us, it means celebrating the dads who basically raised us (and are still raising us) on television. Did any of these TV dads teach you something valuable?

Captain Holt may not have any biological children in the show, but he has raised an entire precinct with one eyebrow. This stern father figure is the kind of guy to keep you in line, and also keep you in his secretly soft heart.

He is terrifying to cross, and yet it’s not so difficult for his family to trample all over him. You never want him to know that you’ve broken the rules, and yet he will always be there to bail you out. Abe Weissman is the stern patriarch of the Upper West Side… and we wouldn’t want to watch the show without him.

Known to the audience and The Fleabag simply as ‘Dad’, this mere mortal of a man who ran off with his daughters’ godmother after their mother passed away has some good left in him yet. He’ll listen to you and give you trips to therapy.

Sir Reginald Hargreeves – The Umbrella Academy

Terse and arguably neglectful, Reginald Hargreeves is the adoptive father of seven in The Umbrella Academy. He’s cold, distant and mysterious… but he had a plan, and we’ve probably just seen the beginning of it.
