Heat Level: Sensual
Love Interest(s): Vampires, Demons, Shifters
I was a bit apprehensive about reading this book because it started off with a bang, and not the kind of bang I like in my novels (see content warning). However, the novel quickly turned around. Before I knew it, I was racing through the pages, desperate to find out what happened next.
Looking for a more detailed Shadow Kissed summary? Beginning in the rainy autumn days of October, the novel follows Gray, an ex-witch and current blood runner for vampires. Now a smuggler of supernatural contraband, Gray completely swore off magic seven years ago when a traumatic event left her for dead. The depression and anxiety from that incident affect her to this day.
When an attack during one of her smuggling runs reawakens her magic, Gray’s life is thrown into chaos. Frantic to avoid the attention that caused her first accident, she tries to hide the fact that she’s a necromancer; both from the local authorities, who will kill her, and the drop-dead gorgeous supernatural creatures who have taken care of her for the past seven years. If she doesn’t, both her and her beloved “pack” will be put at risk.
A reverse harem romance with well-developed characters and a strong emotional core, Shadow Kissed is the first book in The Witch’s Rebels series.
Content Warning: At the beginning of the book there is an attempted sexual assault involving Gray and another female character. While this assault is quickly foiled and nothing comes of it, the event does play out on the page.
