Dystopian Novels to Read this Weekend

We’re definitely living in very strange times. It feels almost like we’re living in a dystopian novel of our own. If you want to escape into a whole new world this weekend, here are some great suggestions. 

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandell

If you love stories about Shakespeare, refugees and found family, you are going to adore Station ElevenIn this epic saga, a troupe of Shakespearean actors travel around, performing for refugees around the country. It’s full of stunning characters and references that will make any Shakespeare fan swoon.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

This is one of our favorite dystopian novels! Our heroine Juliette can’t touch anyone without putting their life in danger. As a result, she’s been locked away for many years. When the government realizes they can use her as a weapon, 

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

This debut novel is nothign short of stunning! When the world is overtaken by aliens, one girl risks everything to deliver books to the rest of humanity. When she falls for an alien who loves pop music, they must work together to save the day!

Followers by Megan Angelo

One of the most stunning books we’ve ever read! This novel by Megan Angelo asks the question of what would happen if celebrities were filmed all day, every day, and the studio controlled their entire lives. With two paralell timelines, both about the dangers and price of fame, this is a must-read.

Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry

This is book two in the Giver quartet, but you can read this one first! In Lois Lowry’s masterful novel, Kira is tasked with gathering blue dye for clothing on penalty of death. A great exploration of how art would look in a dystopian society.
