What to Read

Four Nostalgia-Inducing Children’s Books to Revisit this Week

With everything going on, I’ve never felt the need to slow down and read a book more! Here are five of my favorite books from childhood that are sure to give you your nostalgia fix.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

While my favorite Harry Potter book is always three-way tie between books 4, 5 and 6, Chamber of Secrets is always firmly in fourth place. There’s just something so fun about the magic, mystery and puzzles of book 2. At this point, we are firmly in Harry’s world and can go along for the ride without worrying about Voldemort too much. I just listened to this on audiobook, and it made me very, very happy.

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner

Nothing and no one could get me to put this book down when I was young. Four kids living in a boxcar in teh woods hunting for treasure and having a good time!? This is the perfect read to return to if you need something uplifting.

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke

Probably my favorite on this list! This stunningly magical book follows two brothers who run away to Venice to escape their aunt and uncle. They find themselves immersed in a group of thieving street kids, and the whole thign is much more magical than you’d expect.

The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine

A fun, easy fantasy read! Meryl is the brave one, and Addie is a coward. But when Meryl gets sick, Addie has to set off on a grand adventure! She faces dragons, faries and more as she tries to find the cure, Escape to Bamarre for a few hours with this fun little read.

Which books do you return to when you’re feeling down?
