Frolic Podcast Network Weekly Wrap-up: North Poles, Dystopian Futures and More!

Want to find your next bingeable podcast? Don’t know where to start? Scared you’ve missed something?  We have listed episodes from our amazing podcasters from the last week for you to check out!

Smart Podcast, Trashy Books: 379. Dystopian Futures, Burnout, and More with Alyssa Cole

If you’re queuing up podcasts for travel journeys, I hope you’ll add this one, as it’s immediately one of my favorites. Alyssa Cole and I start off talking about her Audible Original, The AI Who Loved Me, which releases December 3, 2019, and the many things she put in her imaginary near future that are now coming true. We also talk lot about burnout, the costs of working too much, gentrification, her upcoming action-thriller-romantic-comedy, and overcoming hesitation to promote your own work. There are some thoughtful, weighty topics in this episode, but we also laugh so much, and I hope this conversation is as uplifting and inspiring for you as it was for me.

Couples Talking Couples: 50 First Dates

Pop in your VHS and cross reference your memory journal because this week Ryan and Ashley will be remembering the 2004 Rom Com “50 First Dates.” This week they will be playing game of “okay or not okay,” how they would react to finding out they couldn’t make new memories and Ashley’s unique memory refreshing alternative.

Bodice Tipplers: Thanksgiving SUPERSPECIAL: Featuring Carved In Stone

We were originally going to do two books for the holiday, one racist piece of $#!t and one good one full of nuanced representation. But on further discussion, we decided that it’s just not okay for us to do big episode where we give one of these racist-a$$ books the full yuk-yuk treatment. So we combined it into a big Superspecial!!! We discuss the ugly history of Native American-themed romance novels and then we fling ourselves gratefully into the cool, crisp waters of Kathleen Eagle’s Carved in Stone, a book featuring honky tonk bars, omg ponies, Peril, and enormous amounts of big dick energy.

Too Stupid to Love: Pumpkin and Spice with Morgan Cline

Do you like turkey and f*cking?! Then you’ll eat this episode up! Writer Morgan Cline takes break from her beloved prairie romance to review “Pumpkin and Spice” by Abby Knox ($1.99.)

Shelf Love: So long and thanks for all the work: Kate Clayborn and The Midnight Feast by Emma Barry/Genevieve Turner

This week, romance novelist Kate Clayborn (Love Lettering) and I talk lot about work! We read A Midnight Feast, a marriage in trouble novella by Emma Barry and Genevieve Turner. A Midnight Feast begins on Thanksgiving day 1965 – a day of second chances! We discuss how it’s a subversive act to respectfully represent domestic labor on the page, why work is so often shorthand for identity and why that’s problematic, as well as why women’s work in particular is undervalued. Bonus clip at the end of the episode featuring another special person!
