Interview with Natasha

Mary: Welcome to Frolic, Natasha! What was your inspiration for Viktor and Zoe’s story?

Natasha: I actually came up with the idea during a brunch lunch for my cousin. Mimosas were defiantly involved and in theory it was such a great idea. But when I started actually writing it, I realized that the story would be way more complex than just a regular love story.

Mary: Many readers associate you with laugh-out-loud romantic comedies, and while This is Wild has an abundance of funny, lighthearted moments, it’s also very emotional story because of Viktor’s struggle with addiction. Was your writing process different for this book?

Natasha: When I start a book I usually have a couple of scenes that I have in mind, and for This Is Wild it wasn’t any different. With This Is Wild I did lot more research on the topic. I read the 12 steps program. I read about the recovery process, I read about falling off the wagon and then the courage to pick yourself up again. It was an eye opener, and my hats go off to everyone who struggles and makes today count.

Mary: One thing I love about your books is that you’re very descriptive about your heroines’ clothes, and they always sound fabulous. They even inspire me to try and replicate an outfit. Was this a conscious choice when you started writing or is it a natural reflection of your love of fashion?

Natasha: I’m such a visual person that in order for me to write about it I have to see it. Pinterest is my best friend for making everything come to life.

Mary: You’re also known for your hockey romances, and, you are Canadian, so you obviously love the sport. How long have you been a fan and tell us your favorite team? 

Natasha: So, I’m from Montreal so I have to say my favorite team is the Montreal Canadians. I mean if you grew up in the 70’s and 80’s in Montreal there was no ways around it. I grew up watching it, then my son started playing it which was beyond amazing. With a family of five and we all have our teams; the Stanley Cup playoffs are very interesting in my house!

Mary: If someone has never read a romance of yours, what ones would you recommend?

Natasha:  That question is like asking which of my kids I love the most. I love them all but… I do have a couple that stand out.

This Is Wild was the hardest book for me to write emotionally, and it will forever hold a piece of my heart!

Something So Right. I have to go with that because it started it all.

Tempt The Boss. I think this was my funniest book that I’ve ever written, and I don’t think I can ever recreate that.

The Love Series. They honestly are the best second-chance love stories, especially Broken Love Story.

Hollywood Playboy. It has everything I love about Hollywood — secrets and glamour!

Mary: What’s next?

Natasha: First, I have This Is Love (September 3rd), whose heroine is a beloved secondary character seen throughout the This Is and Something So series, Vivienne. It’s going to be so much fun to see her finally get her HEA. Then, I’m going back to the Tempt Series…FINALLY. Yup, you heard it here first: Tempt The Hookup is coming October 22nd.
