January’s Goddess: Cannie Shapiro of Good in Bed by Jennifer Weiner

New year, new loves, right? But one of them should be you. January is ripe for self-reflection and, with all of its heavy eclipse energy, it’s a great time to show yourself some kindness and affection. It was only when the heroine of Good in Bed, Cannie Shapiro, started to focus on herself that she was able to live her best life and eventually find her HEA. With all of the hype around weight loss and diet New Year’s  resolutions, remember another important lesson that Cannie learns: Love yourself at any size

On January 5th, you get your first shot at new beginnings with a new moon in Capricorn that’s a total solar eclipse. The eclipse’s interesting connection with Saturn (discipline) and Pluto (transformation) means that you should stop and reflect but not take action yet. Set intentions for how you want to feel in your relationship. Capricorn, Aquarius, Cancer and Scorpio signs should pay special attention to this date — you like to make moves, but hold back for now.

Then on January 7, Venus leaves the sign of Scorpio and enters Sagittarius. Your romantic connections will start to feel lighter and full of possibility. With Venus in Scorpio, you may have let jealousy and possessiveness take hold in matters of love, but Venus in Sagittarius acts much differently. It’s OK to get excited about the new romantic possibilities, but you need to still be grounded in reality and true emotions. If you’re starting to crush on someone, try not to invest a lot of your emotions in it.

There’s a similar message coming through on January 13 with a Jupiter-Neptune square that especially affects Sagittarius and Pisces signs. Remember that all that glitters is not gold, and don’t get lost in the fantasy, as appealing as it may be. Wait until January 18 to start a new relationship or breath life back into your current one if you’re already boo’d up. That day, a Venus and Mars trine makes you feel sexy and loved at the same time. Take note Libra, Taurus, Aries and Scorpio signs!

Just after the Sun moves in Capricorn (happy birthday, Caps!), there’s a full moon lunar eclipse in Leo that’s also the first supermoon of the year. Whatever emotional journey you’ve been on, this January 21 full moon lunar eclipse will bring this chapter to a close with a flourish. Expect some drama and do your best to zen out because a Mars-Saturn square that same day might make you want to punch someone. Keep your anger in check — especially Aries, Scorpios and Capricorns. Make love, not war!

Emotions will even out on the 22nd when Venus and Jupiter touch noses in Sagittarius. On that day, romance and positive vibes will peak. Then as Mercury, the planet of communication leaves hard-working and disciplined Capricorn for free-spirited and intellectual Aquarius on January 25, your love language, especially for Geminis and Virgos, will finally feel more free to express itself.
