What to Read

Kwanzaa & Hanukkah Romance Novels

‘Tis the season to cozy up with a mug of spicy hot cider, a warm blanket, and a romantic holiday tale. As much as I enjoy the abundance of Christmas stories, there’s nothing like reading a romance that shares an insider view of other cultural celebrations. The following Hanukkah and Kwanzaa novels are filled with a winning blend of ingredients that create a perfect holiday read; romance, family, traditions, and love.

The Kwanzaa Brunch: A Holiday Novella by D.L. White

This post-Christmas, Kwanzaa celebration romance is about yearning for something that’s not part of the predictable routine of the main character’s life. Sienna Charles, dissatisfied with her status quo existence, is looking for something new that will give her life an adrenaline boost. When Booker LaSalle arrives on the scene, he is both something new and unexpected. However, Booker, who is recently divorced, must decide if he’s willing to fall for the temping analyst, Sienna, or maintain his newfound single status. Be forewarned, this is the second of two-holiday books by D.L.White. You may want to read book one, Unexpected: A Holiday Short, first.

Miracles and Menorahs by Stacey Agdern

Sarah Goldman is Vice-Chair of the Hollowville Hanukkah Festival. She develops an advertising campaign to prevent the cherished celebration from being canceled. Still, successful sculptor Isaac Lieberman has plans of his own, and they don’t include commercially marketing the occasion. Can Sarah and Isaac meet somewhere in the middle to find a way to celebrate Hanukkah and maybe find love in the process?

Kwanzaa Angel by Shirley Hailstock

What’s not to love about a second chance romance novel with a holiday twist? Erin Scott can never forget her prom night, when the man she adored, Raimi Price, was a no show. Even though it’s now sixteen years later, the feeling of being humiliated remains, especially when Raimi returns to town and is interested in the same piece of property that Erin wants. Will they be able to move forward in business and possibly, in love?

Hanukkah Hearts by Jean C. Joachim

Becky Cohen, excited to have secured a job at a major publishing house, leaves behind family in Milwaukee and heads to New York, where she learns that the company doesn’t recognize Hanukkah, which means she’ll be working during the holidays. But more importantly, she discovers that her mother’s health has worsened and that her family has canceled Hanukkah. Unexpectedly, she finds comfort in the arms of manager, Sam Golden, and wonders if he has anything to do with the gifts that she finds on her desk each morning. A girl can only hope.

These books show us that whether we celebrate the season by bringing a tree into the house and decorating it, lighting a menorah, or reciting words of African origins, we all have ways to come together for special occasions. A romance novel’s magic is the inspirational message of everyday people overcoming obstacles and achieving their dreams, which makes any day feel like a holiday- because love is always worth celebrating.
