Modern Love Poems: 5 Poems to Keep Close for Rough Days

[Note from Frolic: We are so excited to announce our new series of modern love poetry from the top poets on Instagram. Next up is part 1 of a collection from @_paradoxandmetaphors_]

Poetry is not just words. It is words that move you, calm you, and understand you. Poetry remains an ethereal connect for humans, allowing them to travel between reality and fiction on the back of imagination, hope, and beauty.

When life gets rough and you feel disheartened, here are a few poems to remind you that this too shall pass.

When you want to cry yourself to sleep

Tonight, I want you to the flood this room,

Let the bitterness go while you come afloat.

Tonight, I want you to rise above this sorrow and ask yourself:

Are we not carrying bruised hearts,

scraped knees,

salt rivers,

heavy crowns,

misplaced dreams?

Are we not walking still?

Are we not surviving?

Are we not carrying storms already?

Why should we be afraid of rain now?

When you think you’ll never be able let go

What an adventure it must be, to find yourself by losing someone else.

When you feel lonely, remember that you are not alone

Is the gravel in your voice

from the wars your words wage before

they find a way to your mouth?

Are your half cut sentences,

questions you’re afraid to ask

or are they answers you evade?

I’ve been circling around you

trying to peek into every corner,

but it has left me dizzy

I could be the tomb for your silence,

you can bury your unsaid in me,

my words have died many deaths too,

you see?

When you feel like nothing is working out

The sun was in my palms this morning

and

the moon is swelling full tonight

The doors are open

and

possibility is making itself at home.

The windows are beaming golden

and

my arms are wide open with hope.

there are things I’m telling

and

the universe is listening,

it always is.

When you feel lost & confused

Start with the mall spaces,

indulge in the

pauses and breaks

dig through burrows,

tight lanes,

uncomfortable places

reach a new place,

reinvent your name,

build yourself a home

look and you will find it:

the hope,

the chance,

the peace.
