My Hip Dad Shares His Work from Home Playlist

[Note from Sam: I’m super excited to have my dad sharing more of his favorite music with us today! Take it away, Dad!]

Working from home has us all bored, anxious and struggling for things to fill our time.  Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus can only fill so much and should you really be vacuuming twice a day?  Music can be a great escape for all of us.  I like longer songs with lots of lyrics that I can repeat at random times to annoy my family.  Here are some of my favorites.

“American Pie” by Don McLean (1971)

The first top 40 song I ever remember listening to was filled with lots of catchy lyrics and rhymes.  Can’t say I even realized what the song was about (I was 11).  Coming in at over eight and a half minutes it’s a great way to start a new hour.

“Hearts” by Marty Balin (1981)

From Jefferson Airplane to Jefferson Starship to out on his own, I always liked Marty Balin’s voice and song writing ability.  When he got kicked to the curb by the band he came out with this.

“Love is Alright Tonite” by Rick Springfield (1980)

Rick Springfield is still touring at 70 years old and putting on great shows.  I strongly recommend his stripped down show as he’s a great storyteller and really funny.

“Never Be Lonely” by America (1982)

My favorite America song you’ve probably never heard.  Co-written by Billy Mumy, (yes, Lost in Space Billy Mumy), great listen on the studio album and even better on the live album.

“Should’ve Known Better” by Richard Marx (1987)

I love songs about love and regret.  Personally, I don’t regret the things I’ve done, only the things I haven’t done.

“Baby Boom Baby” by James Taylor, (1988)

No explanation needed.

During quarantine it’s important we listen to happy uplifting songs that make us feel good and give us hope.  Here are two good ones:

We can all get through this pandemic, it’s just going to take a little time.  And when we do, they won’t be able to stop us.  Hang in there!

You can listen to the playlist here!
