New Adult Corner: April’s Top Picks!

April showers are raining angsty, chemistry filled new adult books! This month I was really digging some angsty reads. Maybe it’s the weather but it’s that type of month. These new adult books delivered the angst and the drama and of course, the romance!

My Life in Shambles by Karina Halle

This tells the tale of adventure. When Valerie loses everything, job, fiancée, she ends up in Ireland on a sister’s trip with the promise to say yes to adventure. Adventure can come in all shapes and sizes and in Ireland it comes with an Irish brogue, muscles, and a smoldering gaze. At first glance, this seems like a typical romance novel with a great meet cute and adventure, then the layers are peeled back, and emotional journey pulls at your heart strings. This hero is multi layered and as we discover more and more, I realize that Valerie is too. These are three dimensional characters that are extremely tested, and I was enthralled with their story.

Best I’ve Ever Had by Abbi Glines

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh that’s my excited scream that we’re finally coming back to Sea Breeze! This is Eli Hardy’s book and Ophelia Finley’s book and it’s all Abbi’s trademark of Southern romance. This is a book filled with drama, angst and soap operaesque stories. Eli took a year off from Sea Breeze and is back with stories and a new outlook. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous books, you should, but this can be a standalone. This is an insta love story that will be sure to captivate you with its banter, family style and fun romance.

Pretty Reckless by LJ Shen

I always admire this author’s books because the cover models capture that bad boy vibe so well. This is bully romance set in high school. I know, I know, you’re saying bully romance?! But this isn’t your regular kind of romance. The heroine is the mean girl in this story and the hero is the golden boy from the wrong side of the tracks. I’m obsessed with strong, no shits given heroines. These are complicated characters, while it seems like Daria has it all together, there’s a vulnerability to her character that makes you empathetic to her. This is a spin off from the Sinners of Saints story and it’s interesting to read a book where the heroes of a previous novel are not perfect. You can read Daria’s parents story in Defy. But back to Daria and Penn, their story is not for the weak. With pitfalls, their road to an HEA is not easy and sometimes seems too daunting to make it. LJ Shen always keeps you on your toes.
