The romance genre is jam packed with trilogies, quartets, series, duets, chronicles, serials… In general, you know if you pick a book up, you need to invest for the next few years. Or you pick up a book realise it’s number 4 in the series so you have to read book 1 to 3 before you can pounce on it. After all, reading out of order is a bibliographic sin, punishable by dogeared pages and perpetually flat batteried e-Readers.
But sometimes, you don’t want to go through the agony of reading a series, the financial outlay, the year long waits, the occasional dud book in a series…sometimes you just don’t have the devotion to spare. Which is where the standalones come in. And I don’t mean the “this book can be read as a standalone but is better read as part of a series” malarkey. I mean the true standalones. It starts at page 1 and by the very last page the story has concluded. Of course all the great ones leave you wanting more. But deep down, do you really want another one? Do you want to risk it spoiling the perfection of the first book? No, you don’t.
So today I am giving you a list of my favorite standalone books. They have all been read. Then read again. Then read a few more times. They are well loved favorites that I feel confident in recommending and hope you love as much as I do!
