Sam’s Song Recs: 3 New Bands like Blink-182 to Satisfy Your 90s Nostalgia

If you’ve listened to any of the playlists I’ve curated for the past few months, you know that I have a very broad, eclectic music taste. However, I do tend to stray one of two ways: indie pop, or indie pop-punk. For today’s recs, I reached out to three of my favorite bands that remind me of Blink-182, and they were kind enough to answer a Q&A That I’m SO excited to share with you! I may not have been born for most of the 90s, but I know a good Blink comp when I hear one! Here are three great bands you NEED to check out if you love Blink-182.

1. Modern Maps

I was lucky enough to see Modern Maps in concert at Emo Nite! Their sound is addicting, and I don’t think I’ve come across song of theirs that I don’t like! I’ve come to rely on “Modern Maps Radio” on Spotify as my work day music. They were cool enough to answer these questions:

Sam: What genre would you categorize your music as?

Modern Maps: Alt/Rock/Disco-Grunge from Los Angeles, Ca (for fans of The Band Camino, The Cure, Hall & Oats)

Sam: Who are your biggest musical influences?

Modern Maps: Our influences include; The Cure, Parcels, Hall & Oats, Scissor Sisters, and basically anything that allows you be sad but still makes you wanna dance.

Sam: What’s one song you’d like new fans to check out?

Modern Maps: If you’re new to Modern Maps, you’re going to want to start with our newest single, “Sweet Talk”. Also, we just got done recording A LOT of brand new songs so be on the lookout for new releases VERY soon! -MMuch love

2. Sleep On It

My brother Shane has always been huge influence on my music taste. He introduced me to Sleep On It a few weeks ago, and I immediately fell in love with their album Pride and Disaster. They were nice enough to answer these questions!

Sam: What genre would you categorize your music as?

Sleep On It: I would say we are pop-rock. It’s hard to categorize one’s own music in to a specific genre, but we draw influences from a lot of different genres.

Sam: Who are your biggest musical influences?

Sleep On It: Bands like Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday and Yellowcard make up our musical DNA, but we’re influenced by a lot of different artists. Recently, I would say The Band Camino, Kacey Musgraves and Jimmy Eat World.

Sam: What’s one song you’d like new fans to check out?

Sleep On It: I would share “Under the Moment” or “After Tonight”.
