Trope Rec Tuesday: A Love Out of this World… And Beyond?

To explain a little about what this post will be about, every Trope Tuesday post starts with the same introduction. In every romance book you read there are tropes or archetypes you find inside its pages. You can also see them in shows, movies, plays, etc. Every type of entertainment and media. Romantic tropes are everywhere, and they are fabulous. I adore them and I always tend to find my favorite ones in romance books so I can enjoy them even more. Trope Tuesday is a weekly column where I share books that I know people will enjoy with a specific central trope.

What is a trope? Urban Dictionary explains it best: “Despite the erroneous definitions already published here, trope on the interwebs really refers to an often overused plot device. It can also be described as another variation on the same theme. TV shows, movies, comics, games, anime’, & books are full of tropes & many rabid fan-sites now name & track said tropes with self-explanatory title for each one.” We can name a few: accidental pregnancy, best friends to lovers, sibling’s best friend, marriage of convenience, and so many more. Your favorite couples? They probably got a trope too! It’s always so nice to realize or find out your favorite romance trope and keep searching for books with the same theme. So really? I’m just helping you find that new favorite book of yours. If ever you want a post on a trope I haven’t done yet, do drop me a tweet at @thebookvoyagers and let me know!

I don’t tend to read science fiction romance books, but when I do, they end up being fabulous and I ask myself repeatedly why I don’t read this genre more. There are so many elements to a SF romance book but today we’re specifically talking about alien books. And this means that one or both characters who will fall in love in this novel are aliens. Complex aliens that don’t really know about feelings and are hard to crack but slowly experience these new emotions towards someone. Sounds amazing, right?

Let’s take this romance out of Earth and onto the next world. I bet it’s hard to come up with a new system, new rules, a new world that these characters are going to live in. I’m always amazed by the authors who write SFF books because it’s a whole new world to write and dive into. Let’s check out these alien romance books shall we?

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

Getting abducted by aliens sounds horrible. But these aliens are having some ship troubles and they have left the cargo – the heroine, a human women – on this ice planet. And the only inhabitants on this planet are big, horned and blue? He thinks she is his mate so the fun times begin after that! You will have the greatest time reading this book and you won’t be able to stop after the first one so of course you’re going to pick up the others in the series.

Toxic Desire by Robin Lovett

Aliens with golden skin anyone? This erotic romance has adventure, high stakes, and everything in between. It’s also an enemies to lovers romance so you totally need that in your life. Enemies get stranded on this planet that is an aphrodisiac so they are constantly horny and ready to go at it which does create some fun and epic moments. He knows what will happen if they have constant sex and he doesn’t want to mate with a human girl. But things sometimes don’t go as planned.

Alien Mate Experiment by Zenobia Renquist

After divorcing her controlling and horrible husband, she is ready to enjoy freedom at last! Right then she is abducted by aliens. She is obviously terrified that she is now on board an alien ship. But she is quickly calmed down by its captain, Kader. Our captain will never see battle again so he feels his life is meaningless now. No more challenges. But when he meets Semeera, the human, she brings an unexpected twist to his life. They’re so different but soon she’s in his bed and in his life. And she is wondering if she can really love an alien with scales, claws and a tail…

Strange Love by Ann Aguirre

Matching services, out-of-this-world bachelors, Strange Love has it all. This is the human x alien romance you might be searching for. It’s brand new and ready to read! Ann Aguirre has brought us a romance to remember. This alien guy is a four-time loser in the annual Choosing. And if he loses again he will be without a mate. So with a matching service, he is going to find one. But instead of an alien, he gets a human match and that’s not ideal. Or so he thinks!
