To explain a little about what this post will be about, I’m taking the intro I did for the last one: In every romance book you read there are tropes or archetypes. You can also see them in shows, movies, plays, etc. Romantic tropes are everywhere, and they are fabulous. I adore them and I always tend to find my favorite ones in romance books so I can enjoy them more. I decided to do a sort of Trope Tuesday piece where I will be talking about many tropes and recommend you all some of my favorites that fit.
What is a trope? Urban Dictionary explains it best I think: “Despite the erroneous definitions already published here, trope on the interwebs really refers to an often overused plot device. It can also be described as another variation on the same theme. TV shows, movies, comics, games, anime’, & books are full of tropes & many rabid fan-sites now name & track said tropes with self-explanatory title for each one.” We can name a few: accidental pregnancy, best friends to lovers, sibling’s best friend, marriage of convenience, and so many more for sure. Your favorite couples? They probably got a trope too! It’s always so nice to realize or find out your favorite romance trope and keep searching for books with the same theme.
Grim Reapers are beings, the personification of Death, that collect people who have died; they collect their souls. You can also find them as Death Gods or Death, but reapers is also a way to name them. There are a lot of depictions of them in media and entertainment and since reading Seducing Chaos by Luna Quinn, I became fascinated by characters that are Grim Reapers. After that I watched the Korean drama, Goblin, and the Death God featured was simply hilarious and epic. Then we have Bleach, shounen manga, with an amazing reaper system; we have even The Sims showing Death collecting the dead Sims (you can even romance the Grim Reaper!). I’m a romantic at heart, you know it, and this is a romance tropes column so it’s fitting to show the Grim Reaper falling in love, am I right? It’s a pretty wild concept but it is definitely out there!
Happy to recommend this title every chance I get. Because it’s just simply amazing. A Reaper and a Hellhound/Prince of Hell romance? Who doesn’t want this.

Frostbite is short story in the Last Call anthology. Last Call is the bar & club where supernatural creatures can find cocktails and lovers. How does this work? Buy a drink, get a compatible partner and go to one of the rooms upstairs to do wicked things to each other.
Frostbite is the fifth story, but it’s the one I’m most intrigued by. Our heroine is a siren while our hero is a reaper. Kelsey’s voice seduces and lures people, so she rather not use it. She comes to Last Call for a Frostbite, someone immune to seduction. And there she meets Cain, our icy reaper.
This one I just found out but it sounds amazing. It’s also a short novella.
Calliope is a nurse at a hospice. When a patient arrives without a next of kin, she knows she will be the one in charge. She knows death; she sees it every day at her job. But she definitely didn’t expect for death to appear in front of her. Literally.
Arius is interested in Calliope, she can feel his presence. But he is the Angel of Death’s heir, so he has to grab the scythe of his father and take his place. Yet Calliope will try to teach this reaper and life around him and his world will change.
