Wedding Traditions Worth Breaking by Cindi Madsen

I’m Cindi Madsen and I write romantic comedies. Just One of the Groomsmen features a tomboy in a group of guys. One of her friends is getting married and she’s acting as a groomsman. She’s just not sure what to do when she starts to fall for one of the other groomsmen, who happens to be her best friend.

Wedding traditions worth breaking:

As my book description probably shows, I’m a fan of mixing up expected genders when it comes to groomsmen/bridesmaid/maid of honor/best man
Gown length. Want the sweeping train, go for it! Want to go knee length, roll with it.
Gown color. If you want to go traditional, go ahead, but white or ivory or my favorite color pink all make for great gown colors.
A bride’s side and a groom’s side. Why separate? Sit wherever and get to know people. Mix it up!
Matching bridesmaid dresses. Pick a color theme or don’t. Have different styles and lengths. Basically do whatever makes you and your wedding party happy.
Don’t want to single out all the single ladies who might not want the attention? Who don’t feel like competing over the next to walk down the aisle? Don’t feel like you have to throw the bouquet. Same goes with the garter, which sometimes gets a little personal.
Shoving cake in each other’s faces. If that’s your jam—or frosting as it were—cool, but what it boils down to is what you or your significant other want. Don’t feel obligated to do anything that makes you uncomfortable on your big happy day.
