Weekend Podcast Guide: October 3rd

Want to find your next bingeable podcast? Don’t know where to start? Scared you’ve missed something?  We have listed episodes from our amazing podcasters from the last week for you to check out!

Smart Podcast, Trashy Books: 425. Villainy and Revenge: Deep Diving into Hench with Natalie Zina Walschots

My guest this week is Natalie Zina Walschots and we are talking about her book, Hench, which you might have seen my review of – spoiler alert, I LOVED it.

We talk about villainy, hench people, working for terrible people in real life and fantasy, humanizing collateral damage, and the utterly exhilarating catharsis of satisfying revenge.

Whoa!Mance: Discreet Bylines
Everyone experiences the agonies and ecstasies of expanding circle of friends, but what about the trials and tribulations of expanding a circle of lovers?. This week, Morgan and Isabeau mix with the hoipolloi of Edwardian elite in Jude Lucens’ polyamorous historical Behind These Doors, Radical Proposals Book 1. When a gossip columnist stumbles on the harmonious throuple of a Lord and Lady, and an Earl’s second son, a delicate balance of lust and heart strings is shifted. But buttoned up cultural norms be damned as passion mounts, and all involved grapple with the implications of propriety and class. Is love a scarce commodity? How do we navigate an array of uncontrollable feelings? May we share in this wash basin? Live free and love wide y’all.
The Shipping Room: Episode 145: Comfort Shows
Tamar and Christine are talking about comfort shows, the shows we can watch over and over again! Why do we love something we’ve watched multiple times? Can we still enjoy shipping story if we already know how it ends? Do revivals ruin the comfort level of certain shows? We’re talking about all of that and more!

First Cup of Coffee with Jeffe Kennedy: September 25, 2020

A bit of rant today on the use of the term “Clean” in reference to books – and sex in general – and how some authors produce two versions of a book, one “clean” and one with sex.

Also a shoutout today to Smart Podcast, Trashy Books (https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/podcast/)! (I said it wrong in the show – sorry!)

First Cup of Coffee – September 28, 2020: Fair warning: a scatological podcast today, with musings on the joy of toilets, fear of chamber pots, and how we treat fictional characters and their biological needs. Also how I don’t love mysteries.

You can watch the Love’s Sweet Arrow panel from Saturday that I mention here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xOFw4ziPSY&feature=youtu.be)!

First Cup of Coffee – September 29, 2020:I’m ranting today about how writers should be paid for their work – and how there are so many people who skirt the edges of this by pretending to offer value in the form of promo, but it’s still not paying.

First Cup of Coffee – October 1, 2020: Some exciting news on THE FIERY CROWN and DARK WIZARD. Also bit of discussion on how options work in book deals, and a discussion of the pros and cons of paying someone clean my house.

Big Gay Fiction Podcast: Big Gay Fiction Book Club September 2020: “St. Nacho’s” by Z.A. Maxfield

Jeff & Will take trip in the gay romance way back machine for a visit to the California seaside town of Santo Ignacio in Z.A. Maxfield’s “St. Nacho’s.”

Episode 260 – Book Talk with Jay & Lisa: Lisa from The Novel Approach and Jay from Joyfully Jay join Jeff to talk about some favorite books they’ve been reading, including selections from Aster Glenn Gray, Gregory Ashe, Samantha SoRelle, Alice Winters, Hailey Turner and Sam Burns. Jeff & Will talk about what they’ve been watching recently, including some Broadway, Netflix series and selections from the Cinema Diverse film festival. Will also reviews “Better than People” by Roan Parrish.

Too Stupid to Live: Something to Howl About with Laura von Holt
It’s Frolic Podcast network crossover! Podcaster/writer/anthropological mermaid theorist Laura von Holt (The Mermaid Podcast) joins Becky on wild adventure starting under the sea and then to the town of Alphaville to review “Something to Howl About” ($1.99).
Bodice Tipplers: Dreaming by Jill Barnett
She’s public menace, he’s trying his best to be a devil may care rake but keeps landing on “that cat in the Pepe le Pew cartoons” – it’s Dreaming by Jill Barnett, a book with surprise witches, a shocking number of shipwrecks, and a cautionary tale about staying away from people who are “clumsy as a character trait”. No major warnings for this one unless you count “didn’t know this was a sequel until halfway through” and “oh my god somebody rescue this man from the world’s daffiest woman”.
