Victoria Helen Stone has new book out! The Last One Home is a dual-timeline domestic thriller in the genre of “Earl Had to Die.” In this conversation, we discuss her moving from writing romance as Victoria Dahl to writing domestic suspense and thrillers, growing up in poverty, and the power of nostalgia. Then Victoria figures out a key reason why “Earl Had to Die” books about revenge are so very satisfying.

We have gotten so many requests for this one – we read The Thorn Birds, you guys, and we’re gonna watch the miniseries (check social media for upcoming details about watching it with us!) and we got secret guest (spoiler: Courtney’s secret brother Nate) all the way from Australia, and of course it was a whole ass thing. We lost Courtney for half of it! It was a beast, but we had a blast and we offer it up to you as our 50-episode birthday present to everyone.

First Cup of Coffee with Jeffe Kennedy: March 26, 2021

I’m finishing THE SORCERESS QUEEN AND THE PIRATE ROGUE today, so I have bit of book brain. Also how too much backmatter can make books seem to end too soon, reader expectations, and (ugh) clean romance.

First Cup of Coffee – March 29, 2021: THE SORCERESS QUEEN AND THE PIRATE ROGUE is done! I’m reflecting on privilege, having the luxury of time and peace to create, not to mention read and reflect, and the impact of time poverty.

First Cup of Coffee – March 30, 2021:Why I think the success advice “If you’re not growing, you’re dying” is total bunk, along with associated thoughts on waxing and waning, homeostasis, cycles in nature, and why the full moon is valued over the new moon.

First Cup of Coffee – April 1, 2021:Teaching yourself not to be afraid of failure – and even to enjoy it! – and how I totally lied to you all and didn’t run this revision according to the excellent advice I gave you only two days ago. Also: dealing with deadlines.
