Perfect Pairings

Perfect Pairings: Books and Fall Out Boy Songs

Fall Out Boy is one of the most nostalgic bands that I can think of. When I was in middle school, my friends and I would jam out to all of their old albums and stay up late to wait for their newest one to drop. Their songs have always inspired me to write the most epic action scenes that I could manage, so much so that I listen to their songs still on the daily! While we all desperately wait for a new album to drop, let’s enjoy these perfect pairings!

“Favorite Record” & You Have Match by Emma Lord

This cover of this cute YA contemporary alone makes me giddy with excitement. I don’t know about you, but this song just reminds me of summer days spent on the beach, so it only made sense to pair it with a book about a summer adventure filled with new love!

“Uma Thurman” & The Good Luck Girls by Charlotte Nicole Davis

I just love books with strong female leads and sisterhood! This Western inspired fantasy is so unique and beautifully written, that I just had to pair it with one of my favorite Fall Out Boy songs! Plus, the first book just got a beautiful cover change to match the sequel, The Sisters of Reckoning which comes out this August! Now is the perfect time to get a start on this female-empowered story.

“Young and Menace” & Stormbreak by Natalie C. Parker

Keeping on the theme of strong female squads, the Seafire trilogy by Natalie C. Parker is one of my favorite series! The finale to this fast paced, sea-faring adventure is something that you definitely do not want to miss!

“Sugar, We’re Goin Down” & The Stolen Kingdom by Jillian Boehme

What a throwback song, am I right? I had to pair this classic song with a YA fantasy that follows a young woman, who after discovering the extent of her magic powers gets involved in a plot to overtake the throne!

“Immortals” & Set Fire to the Gods by by Sara Raasch & Kristen Simmons

This song is one of my top five on my workout playlist, so I paired it with a high stakes YA fantasy involving gladiators and mythological Gods!

“Fourth of July” & The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar

Two young women who run rival Henna businesses who eventually fall in love? Say no more!

“Miss Missing You” & Float Plan by Trish Doller

It’s no secret at this point that I adore sea-faring books! This debut is filled with sailing, new beginnings, and what it means to discover yourself. Also, look at that beautiful cover!

“The Kids Aren’t Alright” & The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed

Pairing one of my favorite coming of age songs with this stunning novel about a young girl who is caught in the middle of the 1992 Rodney King Riots is truly perfect! I love books that deal with social justice and highlight young people’s role in social movements. Trust me when I tell you that this is a book you’ll remember for along time. Plus, isn’t that cover gorgeous?!

“Centuries” & The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

I’m always looking for a strong, female centered YA fantasy to read in one sitting, and The Gilded Ones is a perfect feminist adventure that will keep you reading all night!

“Thnks fr th Mmrs” & Witch & Wizard  by James Patterson

I’m going to be honest with everyone, I cannot remember a single thing about this series except for the fact that I loved them. Granted, I read them back in middle school, but I definitely have great memories of reading them!

“My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)” & The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Listen, I don’t know why, but everytime I hear this song it reminds me of Percy Jackson. Maybe it’s because the books are so action packed, or maybe it’s because the song was used in one of the film adaptations–either way, this middle grade series is one of my all time favorites and I couldn’t recommend it more!
