Perfect Pairings

Perfect Pairings: Twenty One Pilots Songs and Novels!

Lately, I’ve been absolutely loving Twenty One Pilots! All of their albums are so poetic and the vocals are incredible. If you’re a member of the “Skeleton Clique,” or just a casual fan, check out some of these perfect pairings!

“Lame Boy” & Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Starting off with one of my favorite songs from TOP, Lane Boy is the embodiment of Kaz Brekkar and his gang of thieves! If you love high stakes fantasy and sticking it to the man, check out Six of Crows.

“Truce” & Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman

I’ve always appreciated Tyler Joseph’s ability to encapsulate some of the struggles of mental health in his songs. If you’re going through something rough, just remember that things get better. Get lost in Challenger Deep for a bit.

TW: schizophrenia, talk of suicide

“Nico and the Niners” & The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

A classic revolution tale! Get your resistance ready and get to reading!

“Chlorine” & Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

Yelena gets the best of everything! A nice room, expensive clothes, but the catch? She has to be a food tester for the royals.

“House of Gold” & Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

A cute, uplifting romance that’ll have you wishing you could build a house of gold for your s/o!

“Car Radio” & Radio Silence by Alice Oseman

If you are struggling with identity, self-expression, or have a hard time speaking your truth, give this pairing a try.

TW: mental illness, animal abuse

“Oh Mrs. Believer” & Looking for Alaska by John Green

My absolute favorite Twenty One Pilots song! Do you have that one person who helped change your life? Regardless if you’ve met them yet or not, enjoy Alaska Young shaking up Miles Halter’s world in this John Green classic!

“Fairly Local” & Vicious by V.E. Schwab

College best friends turned enemies? Superpowers? Good VS. Evil? Check! Check! And Check!

“We Don’t Believe What’s on TV” and Reality Boy by A.S. King

Imagine being on reality TV since you were 5? Well, for Gerald Faust he knows exactly what that feels like. But lately he doesn’t even know what part of him is real and what is for show anymore.

“Message Man” & A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Since he’s one of the only people who can travel throughout four different Londons, it’s no wonder that Kell Maresh becomes the honorary messenger of the crown. But with such power comes equal opportunity for disaster.

I’ve always appreciated the safe space that TOP has created and all of the realities of life that their songs talk about. What’s your favorite Twenty One Pilots song? Leave it in the comments below!
