Author Tips for Achieving Your 2021 Reading Resolutions

Making a reading resolution this year? These authors have some great tips on keeping it!

1. Audiobooks!

“I think one of the best ways for a person to reach their reading goals is to consider audiobooks for their commute, particularly if it’s a long one. I can’t even imagine driving alone anymore without a book to keep me company.”  Abigail Wilson, author of The Vanishing at Loxby Manor—out January 26, 2021

2. Goals!

“First and foremost, setting attainable goals ensures we enter the new year without disappointment! Some ways to ensure we give literature the love it deserves include setting aside thirty minutes to an hour of reading time each day, whatever is realistic, and creating routine, maybe a pattern of reading in the same spot, around the same time, with a favorite drink. And if our schedules don’t allow consistent book time, we can bring literature into our busyness with audiobooks, eBooks, paperbacks stuffed into our purses; I always have a book with me now.”  Caroline George, author of Dearest Josephine—out February 2, 2021

3. Binge Read!

“Instead of binge-watching TV show, binge-read your newest favorite author. I did that last summer with Michael Connelly’s Bosh series and I ended up reading 24 of his books back-to-back. Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller are old friends now. Then cleanse your reading palate with a book in a genre you don’t normally read (mine is historical fiction. Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly is unforgettable!). My number one recommendation: set a limit on social media scrolling and stick to it! You’ll be amazed how much time that frees up.” Kelly Irvin, author of Her Every Move—out February 9, 2021

4. Schedule, Space, Snacks

“How to keep up with your 2021 reading resolutions? Pay attention to three things: Your Schedule— (Block reading time. . . make it priority.) Your Space— (A porch, cozy chair by the fire, or your favorite local coffee shop. . . make the space your reading haven.) And Your Snacks— (Let your reading companions transport you to your book’s location. . . coffee & macarons, anyone?)”  Kristy Cambron, author of The Paris Dressmaker—out February 16, 2021

5. Treat Yourself

“A great way to meet your reading goals is by only letting yourself have something you really love—like that special cup of tea or that bag of popcorn with chocolate sprinkles—while reading. It’s win-win!” – Melissa Ferguson, author of The Cul-de-Sac War—available now!
