Welcome to 2020! It’s a brand new year, but we know that, as much as we’d like to leave it behind in the previous year, sadness can sometimes follow us into the new year. If you’re struggling with the fallout of a recent breakup, we feel for you! Here are five tips to help you feel at least a little better going into the new year. If you’re not, these self-care tips are great for any time!

1. Take a Bath

Grab some bubbles and take a long soak! The steam from the water will clear your sinuses and relax your muscles. The bath is also the perfect place to listen to a podcast or get lost in a good book. Just make sure you don’t drop it into the water!

2. Re-Read Your Favorite Book

Is there anything more comforting than falling back into a story you know and love? We don’t think so. Knowing that a HEA awaits you at the end of your favorite book is sure to remind you that things work out the way they are supposed to! If you don’t feel up to reading, why not borrow the audiobook from your library? You can fall asleep to the soothing sounds of romance and other great stories.

3. Call a Friend

There’s nothing that can make you feel better than a long talk with a good friend. Whether your friends live down the street or halfway across the world, it’s important to connect with people who care about you! They’ll remind you what makes you so awesome, and have a tip or two of their own to get your mind off of things!

4. Watch a Comedy Special

When you’re feeling down, it can be hard to pick something to watch, but a comedy special is a great place to start! The funny stories and jokes are sure to make you smile.

5. Eat ALL the Chocolate

As Remus Lupin once said, “Eat. You’ll feel better.” There’s no harm in eating a candy bar or twelve once in a while.ย

What are your best tips for cheering up after a breakup, or when you’re feeling down?
