At long last, we are so excited to launch a brand-new book club, Frolic’s Monthly Book Crush.

Each month, come along with us as we fall in love with a new book. Throughout the month, look out for exclusive content that’s sure to make you fall in love with this book as much as we did. Keep your eyes peeled for a giveaway or two as well! Without further ado, our first book crush is…

Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon

A TV meteorologist and a sports reporter scheme to reunite their divorced bosses with unforecasted results in this electrifying romance from the author of The Ex Talk.

Ari Abrams has always been fascinated by the weather, and she loves almost everything about her job as a TV meteorologist. Her boss, legendary Seattle weatherwoman Torrance Hale, is too distracted by her tempestuous relationship with her ex-husband, the station’s news director, to give Ari the mentorship she wants. Ari, who runs on sunshine and optimism, is at her wits’ end. The only person who seems to understand how she feels is sweet but reserved sports reporter Russell Barringer.

In the aftermath of a disastrous holiday party, Ari and Russell decide to team up to solve their bosses’ relationship issues. Between secret gifts and double dates, they start nudging their bosses back together. But their well-meaning meddling backfires when the real chemistry builds between Ari and Russell.

Working closely with Russell means allowing him to get to know parts of herself that Ari keeps hidden from everyone. Will he be able to embrace her dark clouds as well as her clear skies?

Why Weather Girl?

Frolic team member Jillian fell for this title right away.

“I’ve always been a sucker for a good newsroom romantic comedy, ever since I discovered The Mary Tyler Moore Show in college. Much like that loveable rom-com, there’s a lot to love that is familiar in Rachel Lynn Solomon’s latest book Weather Girl. There’s parent-trapping, scheming, desk make-outs, and musical theater references galore. Also, is there anything better than warring exes who find their way back to each other??

But as much as we love these warm familiar characters, we picked Weather Girl as our very first Frolic’s Monthly Book Crush because of the new ways that this book explores bringing one’s whole self into a relationship. This book is an iceberg that’s full of earnest craftiness floating at the top; and deep explorations of self-esteem and begging the questions “what do I really want out of life?” beneath the surface. Our titular weather girl, Ari, has been hiding her depression for years, and falls in love with her sports boy (it’s only fair to call him that, right?) Russell, who is accustomed to keeping his daughter that he had as a teen out of workplace conversation. What brings these two lovebirds together, you might ask? Just their warring bosses who run the newsroom, and who used to be married.

There are great laughs, wonderful cheers and we even shed a tear or two. We hope you love this book as much as we do, stick around for more Weather Girl content this month! There will be giveaways, playlists, and a whole lot of feels.”
