Wondering what to read this month? Why not let the stars decide with our January horoscopes and book recs?

Aries (March 21- April 19)

You always have high expectations, not just for yourself, but for others, and the world around you. Though last year’s expectations were either low or non-existent, don’t give up on this year! I’m not saying set your standers as high as a fresh college graduate, but somewhere where you know they’re reachable and manageable. This is also good advice for your love life. Your S.O may not be on the same wavelength as you, and that’s okay, help them figure out their new direction. This will also give you a project to mull over and we know how much you’ll love that!

Book Recommendation: My Fake Rake by Eva Leigh
Taurus (April 20- May 20)

In the famous words of Edna Mode (The Incredibles) “I never look back, darling, it distracts from the now.” Holding on to past regrets, and other things that tie you down is like bringing ten pairs of underwear on a two-day trip. Sure, you might need them, but, like, do you really? Letting go of things that are said and done and can’t be change isn’t going to help you, it will “distract from the now”. Living in the moment might not be easy either, but once you realize that you can leave some baggage at the door, life will feel a little lighter. As for your love life, letting things go might hurt your heart now, but remember that there is a whole genre of books dedicated to reminding you that all hearts can be healed.

Book Recommendation: The Silver Linings Playbook by Mathew Quick
Gemini (May 21-June 20)

You are like a plant, but like a really pretty plant. You need sunlight, water, a pretty place to spread your roots and a little love and care helps you grow. Right now, that love has to come from you, not just the people around you. When your leaves start to wilt, don’t just give up and go back to seek others, but stick it out. Being by yourself and getting to know yourself isn’t a bad thing, but it’ll take time, tenderness, and a whole lot of love.

Book Recommendation: Muffin Top by Avery Flynn
Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Do you feel a little drained? Not just physically but mentally? Maybe even emotionally? Why this might not be the year of change for you, maybe it is time to finally cut ties you have with some toxic relationships in your life. When we were younger, friendships seemed like they would last a lifetime, but now as adults we realize that not all friendships will stand the test of time. Toxic relationships don’t always have to be friendships. Relationships come in all shapes and sizes. Maybe it’s your work that’s sucking the life out of you? Maybe it’s as easy as deleting a dating app that has you staying up at all hours in the night (and not in the fun way). While you figure out this year, remember not to be too cynical. There are still friendships worth having!

Book Recommendation: Saving the CEO by Jenny Holiday
Leo (July 23-August 22)

It’s okay to let people see your soft underbelly once in a while. Instead of closing the world out (as easy as it is most of the time), there are people who are knocking at your theoretical door who can’t wait to get to know you, all of you. Sometimes it’s easier to know yourself then to get to know others, and this will only lead the people you care about it to feel neglected at times and if you aren’t careful it could mean the end of some meaningful relationships.

Book Recommendation: The Wish Collector by Mia Sheridan
Virgo (August 23-September 22)

If you just made some sacrifices and felt bad about them, don’t worry. That feeling will soon change and so will your attitude about the changes you made. Guilt might be weighing you down but reminding yourself why you made those changes will help. Inner peace isn’t as easy, and it’ll be hard work getting to fully accept that what you did was right.

Book Recommendations: A Shadow of Guilt by Abby Green
Libra (September 23-October 22)

You might literally walk the other way to avoid someone you don’t like, not to be rude but simply because you don’t like the drama they bring with them. Confronting others about something that you’re passionate about isn’t a bad thing, and neither is telling Bob from accounting that he doesn’t need to mansplain every bullet point in the weekly agenda. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and that includes you! So cowgirl up and start speaking up, people are waiting to hear what you have to say!

Book Recommendation: Crushing It by Lorelei Parker
Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

You worked your butt off last year to get to a certain point in your life, and you should feel so proud of yourself! Not everyone is going to feel the same way you are and because of that some unresolved issues and topics might be brought into light. Try not to let these dim your light and remind those who are in your life that you are still a work in progress! Absorbing others’ negative thoughts and feelings are only going to hurt you, so remember to stay focused on your goals!

Book Recommendation: The Trouble with Hating You by Sajni Patel
Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

With the start of the new year, remember that “new year, new me” is just a saying. Unless you start to make changes and actually work on some things that will make you a “new you” they are just words and ideas in the air. Reality is a place we all must live, but that doesn’t mean that you need to bring down your newfound attitude. Find the path that isn’t to out of reach for your goals for this year and start walking!

Book Recommendation:  The Marriage Game by Sara Desai
Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Staying on the safe side has always been your go to rule when it comes to trying new things, or even your everyday living. While yes, being safe is smart, it also can be limiting to what you experience in life. Stepping out of your safe little bubble might not sound appealing but trying one new thing once in a while will help you rethink your worldview.

Book Recommendation: Beard Science by Penny Reid
Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

Feeling a burst of creativity should sound appealing but remember to slow it down. The energy you are feeling will burn out just as fast as it came. Instead of doing your project all at once, break it up over several days, not only will you get the extra time to be creative, but you might actually finish your project. Don’t be discourage by distractions and life like conflicts. Your creative juices are always flowing, and your project idea might even improve with time away from it.

Book Recommendation: Melt for Him by Lauren Blakely
Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Last year was the year of dreaming and maybe even planning, this is the year to manifest those dreams into reality. Don’t get discourage by your biggest critic (hint: it’s you),. When your feeling overwhelmed take a few minutes to take some deep breaths and refocus your energy. Talking to someone about what your doing and having them check in with you will also help you stay on track so that you can finish what you started.
