Tis the season for holiday movies and yummy snacks! We asked authors what their favorite flicks are. Here are their answers, each complete with a suggested holiday treat to munch on.

S.L. Sterling, author of Fireside Love

I love curling up under a blanket, with a bowl of freshly popped popcorn and a cup of hot apple cider and watching the holiday classic, It’s a Wonderful Life. The lessons learned in this movie touch my soul each and every time I watch it.

Victoria James, author of Snowed in with the Firefighter

Absolute must-watch movie every year is, It’s a Wonderful Life. It’s definitely a tradition! And a new favourite treat is Boom Chicka Pop’s White Chocolate and Peppermint popcorn-delish!!

My favorite holiday movie is While You Were Sleeping. It has everything I love in a good rom-com: a dreamy guy, a relatable girl, a fun family, and bonus Christmas and New Year’s fun. I like to cuddle up with a warm blanket and watch it every December with a plate of sugar cookies and some warm Swiss Miss hot chocolate (with marshmallows, of course!).

Julie Hammerle, author of Write Before Christmas

My favorite movie to watch at Christmas is While You Were Sleeping. I rediscovered it a few years ago while wrapping presents, and it’s become my go-to since then. Though they don’t quite get Chicago right, Sandra Bullock is adorable. Not holiday specific, but my favorite at-home movie snack is stove-popped popcorn with real butter, salt, and either Tajin, the “Everything but the Elotes” seasoning from Trader Joe’s, or grated parmesan sprinkled over the top.

Ahh, such a hard question! I love holiday movies and my TV is pretty much on Hallmark Channel throughout the entire season. If I had to choose one film for my favorite, though, it would have to be The Holiday, starring Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. I love that they both “vacated” their lives for the holidays and learned to be the heroines of their own stories. My go-to snack for watching this movie is champagne and buttery popcorn, the perfect girls’ night holiday movie treat.

Scrooged
Cynthia Eden, author of One Hot Holiday

My favorite holiday movie is Scrooged with Bill Murray. I just absolutely love that fun take on A Christmas Carol. Each year, I settle in to watch the show while sipping hot cocoa and eating “Santa’s Trash Cookies”—in case you’ve never had these crazy good treats…the cookies have potato chips in them! (Here’s a link to one recipe for them: https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipes/a50432/santas-trash-cookies-recipe/.) Ho, ho, ho!

Samantha Chase, author of The Christmas Plan

I absolutely adore the holidays! I love to decorate the house and get a really big tree, buy gifts and pile them under said tree, and just surround myself in all-things Christmas. It makes my family crazy, but it just makes me so happy! Once everything is in its place, we always sit down to watch Scrooged with Bill Murray. Oh, my goodness…we can recite it almost line for line (and quote it year-round!), but we laugh and have such a good time and I always cry at the end when they sing “Put a Little Love in Your Heart”. Every. Time. And because watching movies requires a snack, our go-to holiday snack is always cookies. There’s always a variety that we bake so whatever is available, we enjoy with some hot chocolate. Mmm…is it Christmas yet???

My favorite time of the year!!!

If you follow me on social media, then you know what Christmas fanatics my family and I are. Like, for REAL. We go all out with the decorating early on, and everyone gets a tree and Christmas sheets and quilts for their bedroom. I make Christmas crafts every year, and then I buy obscene amounts of butter, flour and sugar and bake my face off for most of December. Each night in December when we don’t have a gathering or special dinner going on, we watch a holiday movie together (though the past couple years it’s only been hubby and I, since our teenagers are apparently too cool to hang out with us much right now).

I adore so many Christmas movies, but if I have to pic a favorite, then I’m going with Elf. I mean, how can you not love Buddy the elf and get excited about the holidays after seeing his joyful enthusiasm for the season??? It’s contagious, and let’s be honest, it’s not like I need a lot of help getting into the holiday spirit, so… (Honorable mention for additional favorites goes to: A Muppet Christmas CarolArthur ChristmasThe Santa Clause 1 & 2, Mickey’s Christmas CarolThe Man Who Invented ChristmasThe HolidayThe Grinch Who Stole Christmas, and A Christmas Story.)

My Elf snack of choice is a mug of hot eggnog cut with some milk so it’s not too sweet, and then a homemade Nanaimo bar that I make several batches of at Christmastime. (I make a batch and it’s gone in a day or two, so I have to keep making more.)
